World Art Drop Day September 4

“Holy Trinity in the snow” by Westfield photographer Richard Cowles will be one of the many pieces residents can find and keep for their personal collection.

WESTFIELD – World Art Drop Day will take place on Tuesday September 4, 2018. This is the third year that it has taken place in Westfield and the 2018 version is expected to grow on the success of the last two years.

Similar to previous years, it is part of a larger international project that began in 2013, and has taken place in New York City, Seattle, Tokyo and several other cities around the world.

Art Drop is a campaign to connect people with artists and spans the full day, beginning at 12:01am and ending at 11:59pm.

Artists of various skills: photography, paint, scratch, multi-media and others, will “hide” some of their work and provide clues for the public to find and keep the creation free of charge. Artists are encouraged to take a photo of their creation or the hiding spot, or a combination of both, and use social media to offer clues of where the public can search.

Richard Cowles, a retired 40-year Adjustment Councilor and respected amateur photographer from Westfield, had been the organizer of Westfield’s ArtDrop the first two years but as this event has grown it has needed more volunteers and a more cohesive organizational effort which is why ArtWorks Westfield has taken the reigns.

Since the first Articulture in 2016, the Westfield arts scene has grown exponentially due to the creation of ArtWorks Westfield. According to information on their Facebook page, “ArtWorks Westfield is a local organization promoting the artistic diversity of Westfield and the surrounding communities. Our Mission is to create and promote Cultural Arts, Literary Arts, Musical Events, and Performing Arts, and to support local Artists.”

Any artist can participate by contacting ArtWorks Westfield at [email protected].

If you’re interested in finding some local art, monitor the ArtWortks Westfield Facebook page throughout the day, Tuesday September 4th, to learn where you can get a piece of local art for your home if you’re the first to find it.
