SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State University and Springfield College women’s soccer teams both finished 2-0 in the Springfield Invitational, which was held Aug. 31-Sept.1. On Saturday evening, SC defeated the University of New England, 3-1, in game #2 of the evening. In game #1, it was Westfield State defeating Eastern Nazarene, 4-0.
Westfield State 4, Eastern Nazarene 0
In game #1, Westfield State dominated Eastern Nazarene, leading 3-0 at the half. Overall, four different members of the Owl squad were credited with the markers. The first goal was scored by senior forward Kayley Miller (Ludlow, Mass.) with 37:26 remaining in the half. She was assisted by senior forward Brittanie McGregor (Ludlow, Mass.).
Just 7:02 later, sophomore midfielder Ashleigh Chretien (North Attleboro, Mass.) floated a shot over the goalkeeper’s head to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. That shot was assisted by Miller.
With 23:01 left, McGregor tallied the third goal, and was assisted by senior forward Leann Rivard (Chicopee, Mass.).
Then with 32:53 remaining in the second half, freshman forward Ashley Bovat (Westfield, Mass.) concluded the scoring. She was assisted by McGregor.

In the second match of the day, the host school played well in defeating the Nor’easters, 3-1.
Springfield scored twice in the first 23 minutes of the contest. Senior forward Erica Donnelly (Weymouth, Mass.) scored within the first seven minutes (at 38:17).
The next goal was tallied by junior defender Vicky DiNatale (Weymouth, Mass.)off a corner kick by junior midfielder Ashley Carresi (Billerica, Mass.), who received credit for the assist.
The third marker came at 10:42 by junior defender Brittany Samson (Chicopee, Mass.). She was assisted by freshman forward Nicole Fowler (Maynard, Mass.).
The game’s final goal was scored by UNE senior midfielder Nicole Faircloth (Westfield, Mass.) when her high shot bounded in front of the goalmouth, hit the crossbar, and then landed just inches over the line. That came with just two seconds on the clock.
