Police recover stolen ATV through Craigslist, victim persistence

WESTFIELD–Police recovered an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in Taunton on Tuesday, nearly two months after it was reported stolen out of Westfield.

According to Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe, the ATV was recovered after the victim had reportedly found a vehicle with a similar description to the missing one on Craigslist. The listing was reportedly out of Taunton. Police reported that the vehicle was recovered in Taunton on Dec. 12, and returned to the Westfield Police Department after midnight Dec. 13.

“I want to personally say ‘thank you’ to the victim for staying on it,” McCabe said. “Thank you to the victim and the detectives.”

The vehicle was matched through several different factors, including wear marks and details on the ATV.

According to police, the ATV was first reported missing on Oct. 22.

Police reported that no arrests have been made in the case and that it is still under investigation. The victim has also not been identified.
