Edward G. Steward

 

RUSSELL – Mr. Edward G. Stewart of Pine Hill Road, Russell, MA passed away September 4, 2018 after a brief illness. Born July 9, 1932 in Montpelier, VT son of the late Clayton B. Stewart & Janice (Bartlett) Stewart. Ed was employed for over 35 years at General Electric in Pittsfield, MA as an accountant. Edward was a longtime presence in Russell, MA. He dearly loved politics whether local or nationwide. He was elected in 2005 to the Russell Light commission. Commissioner Stewart served as chairman and as a member, spanning for well over a decade, through dramatic changes in the electric industry. He exemplified the spirit of selfless dedication and leadership to Russell and advanced the goals of public power. Survivors include his sister Dorothy Kline & her husband Alfred of Golden Valley, MN, daughter Karen Pedercini & her husband Craig of Williamstown, MA, son Alfred J. Young, Jr & his wife Jessica of Dalton, MA, grandsons Sean Goodman & his wife Autumn of Galloway, OH, Joshua Young & his wife Cheryl of Tell City, IN and many great grandchildren, who loved him dearly. Edward’s wife, Ruth Barnard Stewart, who he was married to for over 40 years, predeceased him in 2013. Ed also was a proud member of the armed services, having served in the Army Signal Corp.
