DENNISPORT, MA: Michael Joseph Swayger, 36, of Dennisport, MA passed away in his home surrounded by family on Sunday, July 7, 2019. He was born in Holyoke, MA and raised in Westfield, MA. Michael excelled in academics throughout elementary school, high school and college as well as being a fierce competitor in a variety of sports. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School as a member of the National Honor Society. He attended Assumption College and University of MA Amherst pursuing a degree in the field of medicine.
After the loss of his father in 2006, Michael shifted his focus to the family business, Swayger Plumbing & Heating, and became a third-generation licensed Master Plumber. He earned a multitude of certifications including: A/C, Refrigeration and Master Pipefitter. He was also an evening instructor for Cape Cod Plumbing School. Michael’s latest achievement and for which he was most proud was working alongside his younger brother, David, and re-establishing Swayger Plumbing, Heating & Cooling as a successful local business.
Michael had an endless thirst for knowledge and a diverse group of interests. He was a sports car enthusiast and owned a classic Camaro and two red Corvettes over the years. His love of the open water led him to become a Captain of the Sea. His mother’s cooking inspired him to enroll in culinary classes in Boston. He enjoyed reading about various topics and travelled throughout the U.S. and Europe. He was a thrill seeker with dreams of flying planes and skydiving. He had a heart of gold which was evident through his special appreciation for people and animals.
Given all of his great accomplishments, everything paled in comparison to Michael’s unwavering love and dedication to his mother and siblings. To his family, he will always be remembered for his true likeness to his namesake, St. Michael the Archangel. He was their champion, advocate and protector. He will be missed always and held in their hearts forever.
Michael is predeceased by his beloved father Robert Francis Swayger (2006) his older brother and mentor Matthew Robert Swayger (2018) his adored grandparents James and Hazel Affenito and Thomas and Ruth Swayger. He is survived by his loving mother Raphaella (Affenito) Swayger and his cherished siblings Christina and David Swayger. He also leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held in his honor at 11 am Monday, July 22nd at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main St. (Route 28), W. Harwich, MA 02671. Family and friends will gather prior to Mass from 9:30-10:30 am at the Doane, Beal & Ames, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.
