Katherine A. Avery

WESTFIED – Katherine Ann (Fitzgerald) Avery, 95, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020 at Heritage Hall West. She was born in Westfield, MA to the late Francis and Mary Fitzgerald and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Katherine worked as a file clerk for 20 years at Noble Hospital and retired in 1989 and as a teacher’s aide for Westfield Elementary Schools. She loved her Irish heritage and culture and was a proud founding member of the Sons of Erin in Westfield. Her caring for others lead her to be a founding member of the Westfield Boys and Girls Club. Katherine loved playing cards, golfing, bowling and her time with her family.

Sadly, Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Welcome R. Avery in 1978, a son, Michael Avery, a daughter-in-law MaryEllen (Peczynski) Avery and a son-in-law Donald Galica, a grandson Eric Avery, two brothers, Francis “Sa” Fitzgerald and Jig Fitzgerald and four sisters, Margaret Corcoran, Doris Fitzgerald, Mary Meager and Anna Garvey. She is survived by her loving children, MaryAnn Galica of Alburg, VT, John P. Avery and his wife Carrie of Westfield, Kathleen T. Annino and her husband Chuck of Westfield and Joseph R. Avery of Boston, a brother Edward Fitzgerald of Westfield, five cherished grandchildren, Jason Avery and his wife Alycia, Alyssa Soto and her husband Chris, Brett Stevens and his wife Gina and Serena Stevens, as well as her eleven great grandchildren, Wyatt, Hanna, Genesis, Kyle, Elijiah, Broc, Austin, Vincent, Mackenzie, Mia and Jacqueline.

Katherine’s family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Hall West D Wing, for their loving care and friendship during their mother’s time there. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
