23rd Annual golf tournament to benefit Southwick Police Association

SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Police Association is preparing to host their 23rd Annual Golf Tournament on Monday October 8.  at Edgewood Golf Course. The shotgun start will be at 11 a.m. with registration from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

It costs $95 per person to play and includes a breakfast buffet, access to the driving range, greens and cart fees, lunch on the golf course, and dinner after golf.

In his third year as the Southwick Police Association President, officer Dave Massai said that they have capped the limit at 144 golfers.

“Every year it’s been a sold-out crowd and were anticipating another sold out crowd,” said Massai.

A limit of 144 golfers allows two groups of foursomes on each of the 18 holes. Noting that some people in the past have waited until a day before the tournament to register, Massai wants to assure interested people that there’s no guarantee spots will be available days before the event.

“Get your information in ahead of time to reserve the spot,” said Massai.

While several Southwick police officers and firefighters participate in the tournament, friends, family, supporters of Southwick Police and anyone in the community regularly take part in the tournament.

All of the proceeds will go back to the Southwick Police Association. Massai pointed out that in the past, the proceeds from the tournament have allowed the association to give scholarships to high school students or assist struggling families that reside in town.

“We try to give back to as many families as we can,” said Massai.

The Southwick Police Association is actively seeking sponsors for the tournament. Their largest sponsors are Roma’s Restaurant and Williams Distributing. Roma’s provides the participants with the dinner after the tournament and Williams Distributing will have gifts and raffle prizes. There will also be prizes for the longest drive and for anyone that makes a hole-in-one. Saunders Boat Livery has donated a pontoon boat to give to the individual that manages to get a hole-in-one.

For those interested in playing, sign up is available via the registration form on the golf tournament Facebook page. You can mail the registration form to the Southwick Police Association on 11 Depot St. in Southwick, Mass. 01077.
