SOUTHWICK – The 250th Anniversary Committee is holding their next monthly meeting on Monday December 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Southwick Town Hall.

According to Jim Putnam, Chairman of the anniversary committee, all of the working groups for the committee are continuing to work on their respective areas in order to make the 250th Anniversary celebration a success.

The parade committee is working on having the parade for October 10, 2020 and is estimating a cost of approximately $25,000. Putnam also reported that the events committee is scheduling events for the celebration. A few of the events already being worked on include a Christmas tree lighting contest in December of 2019, a winter carnival in February of 2020 and a pub crawl on St. Patrick’s Day in March 2020. The Historical Content work group is planning a commemorative book that would include 250 years of history in Southwick. For the 225th Anniversary, a book included pictures and information and the Historical Content work group is looking to upgrade that. The book would also be available for purchase.

Putnam also added that a new logo for the 250th Anniversary has been created and will be discussed further on Monday.

“I’m really excited about that, it’s a real vibrant logo that captures what we all really love about Southwick,” said Putnam.

Putnam is pleased with the progress that all of the work groups have done, but there is more that needs to be done.

“We’re getting to the stage where we need to complete our calendar of events and get some working budget figures around the things we need to do,” said Putnam.

It’s also encouraged for anyone in the community to attend Monday’s meeting, or any of the future meetings.

“There’s plenty of work to be done,” said Putnam. “It’s a great opportunity to interact with other people in town for a very good purpose.”

In April of 2018, the Select Board announced that they were looking to form a committee to work on the 250th anniversary project. In 2020, the town of Southwick will be celebrating their 250th anniversary. The events are expected to kick off in November of 2019. The town was incorporated as a separate community on November 7, 1770. The committee’s plan is to have an event each month.
