3 Doors Down Rawks Mohegan Sun Arena

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – A summer rawk fest of sorts made its way to the Mohegan Sun Arena this past Thursday night with 3 Doors Down, Seether and We Are Harlot. The 28-stop tour started in May and will end with a show in Ohio on August 22.
This tour has 3 Doors touring without supporting new music, although they claim to have been in the studio before the tour started and could have some new music out by the end of the year. The band opened the show with one of their many hits, Here Without You. This was kind of a surprise as it’s not really a high-energy song one would use to kick off a concert.
This was a no-frills stage setaup that consisted of the drums on a small riser, a wide open stage and a big 3 Doors Down banner… that’s it. I would guess this is part of the reason why ticket prices were around $40.
The band ripped through a 17-song set in rather mechanical fashion interspersed with a few words of wisdom from lead singer Brad Arnold. A couple of new songs, The Broken and Do it in the Dark were mixed in with all the classics like Duck and Run, Away From the Sun, Loser and Better Life.
Also thrown in the mix was an odd choice of a cover song, Phil Collins’ Another Day in Paradise. The night ended with two of their bigger hits, Kryptonite and When I’m Gone. Overall a typical set from 3 Doors and the cool thing about it is they are always great to see live.
Featured openers Seether flew all the way from their hometown of Pretoria, South Africa for the show… ok not just for this show, but the entire tour. These guys have been around since 1999 and have put out six full-length releases in that time, including their most recent, Isolate and Medicate in 2014.
Their 50-minute, 11-song set spanned their career and included three new songs off of Isolate including Same Damn Life, Words as Weapons and Nobody Praying for Me. Seether opened the show with 2003’s Gasoline off their very first release Disclaimer.
Lead singer and founder Shaun Morgan mostly went song to song without much crowd interaction. The band ripped through Rise Above This, Broken, Country Song, Same Damn Life and Remedy to close out the show. A cool part of Remedy was when drummer John Humphrey handed over his drum sticks and Morgan announced “make some noise, that’s a sixteen year old kid behind the kit”. This was a cool moment as the kid was really in to it.
We Are Harlot opened the show with a very energetic eight-song set that included their hit song Dancing on Nails and a welladone cover of Queen’s Tie Your Mother Down.
This was a nice rawk show for Mohegan to bring in over the summer as all three bands playing had a different vibe, but all sounded great.
