12:43 a.m.: assist resident, Noble Hospital, Court Street, a caller from the hospital’s emergency department requests a courtesy transport for a discharged patient, the responding officer reports a transport was provided to a Southwick Road address;
2:51 a.m.: disabled vehicle, Southampton Road, the patrol officer reports he came upon a tractor-trailer unit stopped next to a car on Southampton Road, officer reports the car appeared to be unoccupied but when he approached he found the operator slumped over on the seat, the trucker said that the man did not respond when he blew his air horn, the officer reports that he shook the man who eventually opened his eyes and shut down his vehicle’s engine at the officer’s request, the operator’s license was found to be suspended, Angel Martinez, 34, of 83 Ontario St., Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (a subsequent offense) and the car was towed to the police impound yard;
4:31 a.m.: accident, Riverside Drive at South Maple Street, a caller reports her antilock brakes failed and she struck a snowbank with her vehicle, the responding officer reports tows were summoned to remove the vehicle from the guardrail, the operator’s license was found to have been suspended and a criminal complaint was filed;
9:32 a.m.: officer wanted, Pleasant Street, a patrol officer reports he was advised of a motorist who habitually drinks a can of beer and four nip bottles of alcohol in a store’s parking lot, the officer reports when he investigated the report he found a man drinking from a can of beer in a vehicle, the officer reports the motor was not running, the man said that he had already consumed the contents of the nip bottles which were in a bag on the passenger seat, the officer reports the man was parked in a handicap space but the placard displayed belongs to his wife who was not in the vehicle, the officer reports a criminal complaint was filed and the man was transported to his Highland Avenue home where his wife accepted custody;
1:03 p.m.: counterfeiting, Noble Hospital, 115 W. Silver Street, a caller reports a counterfeit bill was passed in the hospital cafeteria, the responding officer reports the cafeteria manager said that he found a bogus $20 bill while counting the receipts;
1:04 p.m.: larceny, Elm Street, South Maple Street, a caller reports she believes a babysitter stole property over a period of time since Christmas including an iPod, gift cards, a bottle of liquor, makeup and clothing, the responding officer reports the complainant said that another babysitter told her that the suspect said she has stolen from their employer, the officer reports the suspect denied the thefts, the case remains under investigation;
3:19 p.m.: animal complaint, Cedar Lane, a caller reports a sick or injured raccoon is in his driveway, the responding animal control officer requests a police officer’s assistance to dispatch the animal, the ACO reports the cadaver was transported to the municipal animal shelter pending delivery to Twiss Street when the transfer station reopens;
4:19 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Chapel Street, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to have expired registration, the car was towed to the police impound yard;
6:14 p.m.: assault, East Bartlett Street, a person came to the station to report he was assaulted by his former girlfriend’s new boyfriend, the responding officer reports the man said that he was punched in the face but does not wish to pursue criminal charges;
8:40 p.m.: officer wanted, Powder Mill Village, 126 Union St., a resident came to the station to report vandalism to her flowers, the responding officer reports the complainant said that a neighbor peeled the petals off a plastic flower and made a comment which she construed to be threatening, the community policing officer for the neighborhood was advised of the incident.
