WESTFIELD – The annual Westfield State University Health Fair is scheduled for Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lower level of the Ely Campus Center. This event is part of the university’s Month Celebrating Women and is sponsored by Westfield State University Health Services and Wellness Center. The health fair is free and open to the public.
More than 30 organizations will have representation at the health fair from university services such as the Westfield State Counseling Center and Health Services to national organizations including Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the American Red Cross.
Several departments from Noble Hospital will be at the site including Building Bridges, which will offer free glucose screenings. There will be coupons given away for free cholesterol screening at Noble Lab. Dr. Stephen Schonholz, head of center for comprehensive breast health, will be on site to answer questions.
Maxim Health Systems will offer Tdap vaccines for $75.
Many organizations will be on site to offer education pamphlets and information about various conditions including the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Life Choice Donor Services, and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
Westfield State Class of 2016 will promote the One Mission’s My Kid’s Cancer “Buzz Off” to raise money for children with cancer and their families. Westfield State nursing students, assisted by Westfield Vocational Technical High School students, will offer free blood pressure screenings. Westfield State Student Ambassadors will offer information about important tests and screenings for 15-40 year olds, and student Olivia Dumas ’15 will provide information about disability awareness.
Other organizations include: Adcare Hospital, Agawam Massage and Bodyworks, AIDS Foundation, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Attain Therapy and Fitness, Baystate Community Health Centers, Baystate Blood Donor Program, Boston Medical Center Healthnet Plan, Cosco Pharmacy, Delete Blood Cancer, E4Health-Lifescope, the Gandara Center, Glow Spray Tanning, the Medical Reserve Corp, Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation, New Beginnings YWCA, Paws for a cause, Pepsi, the Pioneer Valley Lupus Foundation, Tapestry Health, Vantage Sports and Rehab, the Western Mass Recovery Learning Community, and Westfield Yoga.
For nearly 30 years, Westfield State has held events dedicated towards awareness and celebration of women’s rights and issues involving women globally. What started off as a week-long celebration organized around International Women’s Day (March 8th) is now a month-long tribute complete with guest speakers, concerts, and art exhibits. The month is organized by faculty and staff and the department of diversity, inclusion, and student activities and is led by Ron’na Lytle, administrative assistant of the ethnic and gender studies and world language studies departments.
