Stand out on social media by ‘Embracing Your Inner Diva’

WESTFIELD – Westfield State University will host social media expert Kelly Galanis and her lecture “Embracing Your Inner Diva” on Thursday March 26, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in New Hall Room 141 as part of its annual Month Celebrating Women events.
For nearly 30 years, Westfield State has held events dedicated towards awareness and celebration of women’s rights and issues involving women globally. What started as a weeklong celebration organized around International Women’s Day (March 8) is now a month-long tribute complete with guest speakers, concerts, and art exhibits. The month is organized by faculty, the Department of Diversity, Inclusion and Student Activities and led by Ron’na Lytle, administrative assistant of the Ethnic and Gender Studies and World Language Studies departments.
The “Embracing Your Inner Diva” event is a lecture given by Kelly Galanis, associate director of Advancement Communication and Information Services, who, in addition to her work at Westfield State, is a social media consultant, trainer, and motivational speaker.
Her alter ego, “The Red-Headed Diva” speaks to individuals, groups, and organizations and helps them to develop a positive and confident social image through various forms of social media.
According to Galanis, women are constantly affected by negativity, outside influence, and the perceptions of others. Her mission is to help men and women channel and embrace their “inner diva.” The event will focus on building confidence and feeling comfortable in one’s own skin through the help of social media.
Galanis describes the event as discussion based and interactive, stating that, “I believe we can all learn from each other, and sharing perspective and experience help us grow and feel supported.”
Attendees should expect “an engaging experience that will have attendees smiling, sharing, laughing, possibly crying, reflecting, and just having a wonderful time discovering more about the person they want to share with the world,” said Galanis.
Galanis was named one of Western Massachusetts Women Magazine’s Top 25 “Women to Watch” for 2012-2013, and was award the Top Woman in Education title.
Galanis’ mantra, which is posted on her website http://theredheadeddiva.com/ is, “Confidence is about losing the fear of telling the world who you are.”
“I always want every attendee to leave these talks feeling ready to take on the world. Open to both men and women, this event is truly about discovering who you want to be,” Galanis said.
