VIRGINIA:Warren Eugene Sandidge, 92, of Colonial Heights passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015. He was born in Reusens, VA to Cecil Truette and Nellie Wills Sandidge. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Cecil Truette, Jr., Charles Marshall, Mosby Brown, and Ronald Francis Sandidge; sister, Dorothy S. Kidd; and son, David Warren Sandidge. Warren graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA. He attended Hampden-Sydney College, Lynchburg College and the American Institute of Banking. Warren retired from Seward Luggage. During WWII he served in the Navy aboard a destroyer in the Pacific which participated in the Atter and Kiska operations in the northern Pacific, and in New Guinea, New Britain and Admiralty Island campaigns in the South Pacific. When the ship was crippled by a Kamikaze, he was reassigned to a repair ship which remained in Leyte Gulf until the end of the war. Warren was an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and the Petersburg Lion’s Club, serving as President. He served on the original board of the Battlefield Park Swim Club and was a former member of the Colonial Heights Golf Association. Warren is survived by his wife, Geraldine Newman Sandidge; daughter, Dr. Marilyn Lelia Sandidge (Dr. Henry Wefing) of Westfield, MA; son, William Newman Sandidge (Dr. Nancy Koughan) of Decatur, GA; grandchildren, Katherine Sandidge Butler, Mandy Hannah, Rachel Warren, and Jay William Sandidge; great-granddaughter, Rylee Katherine Sandidge, all of Westfield, MA; two brothers, Thomas Monroe Sandidge of Lynchburg, VA and Richard Lee Sandidge of California, MD; two sisters, Wanda S. Stone of Hollywood, MD and Joanne S. McGuire of Lockport, IL; numerous loving nieces and nephews. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with a reception following in the Goodrich Hall. Interment will take place at 3:30 P.M. in Newman Cemetery at Oakland Christian Church in Chuckatuck, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
