2:22 a.m.: incapacitated person, Southwood Acres, 342 Southwick Road, a caller reports a person down and out, the responding officer reports an intoxicated person was transported to the station in order to arrange for a ride home;
8:01 a.m.: accident, Falcon Drive at Southampton Road, a call from a school transportation company reports a van carrying schoolchildren was involved in a minor accident, the responding officer reports that the driver said that she got something in her eye which caused her van to leave the roadway and strike a pole, none of the three children on the van reported any injury;
8:13 a.m.: larceny, Phelps Avenue, a caller reports a large area rug was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that she had left a rug on a common porch overnight and found it missing in the morning, the caller said that she suspects a neighbor with whom she has ongoing issues may have taken it, the officer reports there was no response at the neighbor’s door despite indications that somebody was at home;
8:44 a.m.: found property, West Silver Street, a school resource officer reports a student surrendered a wallet in the Westfield Middle School South parking lot, the SRO reports he was unable to contact the owner of the wallet and it was stored for safekeeping;
10:34 a.m.: larceny, Meadow Street, a resident reports via the online reporting option that she discovered fraudulent charges to her credit card had been made online, the credit card company was advised;
11:15 a.m.: animal complaint, Holland Avenue, a caller from the Westfield post office reports a mail carrier could not exit his vehicle due to two large dogs running loose, the responding officer and an animal control officer report the dogs fled to a Holland Avenue address where the officers were unable to contact anyone;
11:59 a.m.: larceny, Main Street, a caller from a Main Street drug store reports a customer apparently stole merchandise valued at $40, the responding officer reports the suspect had left the area but security video was reviewed;
12:39 p.m.: accident, Franklin Street, a caller reports pedestrians were struck by a vehicle, the responding officer reports witnesses said that eastbound traffic stopped for the pedestrians who were not crossing in a crosswalk when they were struck by a westbound vehicle, the operator of the vehicle said that she did not see the pedestrians before the collision, both pedestrians were transported to Noble Hospital where both were treated and released;
2:29 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a caller from an East Main Street restaurant reports his bicycle was stolen from his workplace, the responding officer reports the complainant said that he rode his bike to work the night before but due to rain when he left work he secured the bike in a locked area and got a ride home, the man said that the bicycle was missing when he returned to work the next day;
6:12 p.m.: disturbance, Sackett Road, a caller reports his brother was assaulted by people who came to their home, the responding officer reports he observed the vehicle the suspects reportedly left in as he approached the address and stopped that car, the operator said that one of the occupants was the resident’s girlfriend and had been harassed by the resident so they went to speak with him about the issue, the man said that he was the only person to exit the car and while he was speaking with the resident another man approached with a baseball bat, the man said that the other man dropped the bat and attempted to hit him so he blocked the punch and struck the man defensively, the other man was knocked to the ground, the officer spoke with the caller who provided a similar account but said that the visitor had kicked the man he knocked down in the head, the witnesses in the car agreed that the operator had knocked the other man down but denied he kicked the fallen man, all the parties agreed that they did not wish to pursue criminal charges;
7:05 p.m.: liquor law violation, Franklin Street, officers monitoring customers at Franklin Street liquor stores report that a customer was seen to exit a liquor store with a package which he placed in a vehicle occupied by a woman who appeared to be younger than the legal drinking age, the officers report that the woman was found to be 20-years-old and a city ordination violation citation for being a person younger than the legal drinking age in possession of alcohol was filed, the officers report four other similar incidents also resulted in the issuance of city ordination violation citations;
7:42 p.m.: liquor law violation, Franklin Street, officers monitoring customers at Franklin Street liquor stores report that a customer was seen to exit a liquor store and drink from a bottle of liquor, officers spoke with the man who agreed that he was not in condition to safely operate a motor vehicle and the store management allowed the man to leave it in the parking lot overnight, the keys were surrendered to police and the man was provided a courtesy transport to his home, he was reminded to collect his keys from the desk officer the next day and to retrieve his vehicle.
