MAJOR LEAGUE
Game Date: April 18, 2015
Moose Club 3, Police 2

Great pitching from Police Association’s Trent Adam’s first start of the season with five complete innings pitched, facing 19 batters with 12 strikeouts. The Police defense started off strong with a fly ball caught by Joey Delgado and a ground ball hit to CJ Czarnecki who threw out the batter with the assistance of first baseman Delgado. Ty Leonard started a 5th inning rally with a lead off double and crossed home on pass balls and aggressive base running. A patient plate appearance by Jacob Wagner resulted in a walk. Wagner advanced to second on a base hit by Colin Reed and hit home by a single into left field by Sean Rosselli to tie the game at 2. Rosselli got into scoring position with a stolen base before the inning ended. With last at bats Moose Club edged out Police by scoring with two outs ending the closely matched game.

Commercial Distributing 6, Police 0

Despite Jacob Wangner’s 2-2 performance at the plate Sunday, Police took a loss at the hands of Commercial. Joey Delgado lasted four innings, striking out 8 of the 19 batters faced in his first start of the season. In the field CJ Czarnecki had two putouts from second base. Jacob Wagner came in for relief and struck out three of the nine batters he faced to end the game. Despite all their efforts the Police could not hold Commercial back from victory.

Commercial Distributing 15, Advance Manufacturing 0

Led by strong pitching performances from Adam Tremblay, Ryan LaPoint and Colby Nadeau, Commercial Distributing completed a 15-0 shutout of Advance Manufacturing on Saturday.
Tremblay helped his cause at the plate by adding 2 RBI on the day while LaPoint landed on base three times, scoring each time. Kyle Sherpa, David Tirrell and Jake LaBombard all had multi-hit games and Darin Towle drove in a pair in the 13 hit, 15 run performance.

Police 10, Sons of Erin 7
Police get the bats working in their favor with a superb effort by Joey Delgado. Joey rocked Sons of Erin with two home runs. Joey went 2-2 in the game with five RBIs and three runs scored. Joey homered in both the first and third innings. Both teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game. Police pulled out the win thanks to runs scored by Sean Rosselli, Marcus Phillips, and Ty Leonard from key hits from Marcus Camp and CJ Czarnecki. Jacob Wagner and Trent Adams helped the cause by scoring two runs each. On the Mound Trent Adam faced 19 batters with 8 strikeouts, he was assisted by great defensive effort from Joey Delgado, Cj Czarnecki and Sean Rosselli.

Kiwanis 6, Hastie Fence 4
Kiwanis brought a 2-0 record into the Saturday afternoon game against Hastie Fence. Hastie Fence jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the 1st inning, but Kiwanis battled back in the 3rd. Will Brewster reached first base, stole second, and advanced to third on a pass ball. With two outs, Jimmy Cloutier lined to left scoring Brewster. Later in the inning Anthony Schabowski scampered home on a passed ball to tie the game at 4-4. Six innings wasn’t enough and it would take extra innings to decide the outcome.
With one out in the 8th, Will Brewster drove in two runs with a double to give Kiwanis the lead 6-4. Hastie Fence battled back in the bottom of the 8th. With two outs and the tying run on second, a small ground ball got through the infield. But a fleet footed Riley Sullivan backed up the play, picked up the ball in short right field and threw a strike to the plate where Jared Noel applied the tag and secured the win for Kiwanis. JT Oleksak went 1 for 3 with a double, and Riley Sullivan went 1 for 3. Tyler Cousineau pitched 4 2/3 innings striking out 9. Joey Calderella pitched three scoreless innings getting out of tough jams to help Kiwanis go to 3-0 on the year.

Commercial Distributing 15, Advance Manufacturing 0
Advance Manufacturing ran into a very strong hitting Commercial team on Saturday morning at Paper Mill Field. Commercial banged out 15 hits and received strong pitching from three different hurlers. Owen Jurczyk made his Majors debut on the hill for Advance. Jurczyk struck out five batters during 2 2/3 innings of very solid work. Jaden Gonzalez (1 K) followed Jurczyk on the mound and pitched one inning before turning the ball over to Luke Bonini. Bonini came on with the bases loaded and two outs and needed just one pitch to work out of the jam. At the plate for the Manufacturers, Jackson Lambert had a solid single to left field while Wyatt Baker also reached base.

Commercial Distributing 14, Moose Lodge 4

Commercial and Moose were locked in a tight game through the first three innings Sunday afternoon. Commercial lead just 5-2 but that all changed in the fourth with Commercial plating 9 to end the game at 14-4. With the win, they moved to an impressive 4-0 record.
Bats were active throughout the lineup with nine different players recording at least one hit. Jake LaBombard and Colby Nadeau (2 RBI) supplied a triple each while David Tirrell had a multi-hit game with a single and a double.

Slovak 9, Kiwanis 3
Kiwanis took its unbeaten record to Paper Mill field in an early morning game against Slovak. Slovak jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back. Chris Gage was dominated on the hill for Slovak going five full innings and striking out 8. Brennan Jarvis had a big triple for Slovak but his glove was even more impressive, making play after play at shortstop. For Kiwanis, Anthony Schabowski was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored. JT Oleksak was 1 for 2 with a triple and Joey Calderella went 1 for 2. Riley Sullivan pitched well for Kiwanis striking out 5 in two innings.

Police 12, Hastie Fence 4
American Majors Police jumped out to an early lead with ten runs in the first three innings. A two-run single by Trent Adam, an RBI single by Ty Leonard, and an RBI groundout by Colin Reed in the first inning started the day strong. An RBI double by Sean Rosselli, an RBI single by Jacob Wagner, and a groundout by Joey Delgado during the second inning supplied the early offense for American Majors Police. Jacob Wagner went three for three in the batters box.
Delgado recorded the win for the Police allowing only four runs over 4 2/3 innings. Delgado struck out eight of the 22 batters faced, followed by a strong relief from Kareem Zaghoul delivering Ks to four of the six batters to finish the game. Dacota Durkee and Kareem Zaghoul made contact at bat in the early in the game, resulting in two more runs. Police showed their defensive strength through the field work of Nick Montanaro, Joey Delgado and Kareem Zaghoul.

Advance Manufacturing 10, Camfour 8 (8 Innings)
Advance Manufacturing outlasted Camfour in a very exciting extra innings game played at Paper Mill Field. Advance came out of the gates strong scoring 6 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Jackson Lambert (3-4, 3 runs scored) and Luke Bonini (2-4, run scored) got things going with back-to-back singles. Jaden Gonzalez (2-4, 1 run, 3 RBI) then plated Lambert with an RBI single up the middle and Bonini scored on a bases-loaded single by Wyatt Baker. Ethan Porter (2-5, 3 RBI) and Aidan Krol (2-4, 2 RBI) also drove in runs during the 6-run uprising. After Camfour fought back to tie the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Manufacturers scored to take an 8-7 lead in the top of the 7th when Lambert came home on a double by Gonzalez. Camfour scored a single run in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game once again at 8-8 but the Boys in Blue put the game away with two runs of their own in the top of the 8th on a bases-loaded single by Porter to drive in Sean O’Keefe and Niko Bacopolous (2-4) with the winning runs. Porter (8 k’s) got the start on the mound for Advance and was brilliant over 4 2/3 innings of work while Krol (3 1/3 IP, 4 K’s) came on in relief to earn the victory.

Commercial Distributing 6, Air Compressor 2

For the third time in four days, Commercial (5-0) picked up a win. They had their hands full with Air Compressor, but came on strong in the late innings to secure a 6-2 decision.
The evening belonged to Jake LaBombard. Jake took the mound and finished his second complete game of the season with a 3 hit, 9 strikeout performance. This was not the big story of the night however. Leading off the game for his team, Jake took a 2-0 pitch to straight away center for his first career homerun! He also added single in the fifth and scored two runs.
Air Compressor held a 2-1 advantage through three innings. However, Commercial would come back scoring 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th inning. They were helped by the bats of David Tirrell (single, RBI, run), Colby Nadeau (single, RBI, run), Aidan King (single, RBI), and Chris Wilda (single, run).

WHEELER LEAGUE

Fenway Westfield 8, King Pest Control 7

Fenway Westfield started their season with a nail bitter against a great team. James Coach pitched three innings with three strikeouts and had an RBI. Noah Luis pitched two innings with four strikeouts. Cameron Cusack closed the game and pitched one inning with three strikeouts, and he hit two doubles. Liam Dolan had a diving catch at shortstop, along with an RBI double and an RBI single. Brandon Parks and Colin Cusack both had RBI singles. Noah Gardner had 3 hits, and he did a great job as catcher. Eli Perez had two big defensive plays, along with a single. Michael Ritchie had a single, and Mason Dolan showed great base running skills and stole home.

Tucker’s Restaurant 17, Bertera Dodge 9

Tucker’s Restaurant and Bertera Dodge met on Wednesday night in the second game for both teams. Tuckers scored early and often defeating Bertera by a score of 17-9. With the loss, Bertera fell to 1-1.
The pitching staff for Bertera struggled, giving up eight runs over the first two innings. Tuckers did not let up, scoring in every inning of the game.
Bertera received offensive contributions from Emmett Garfield, Andrew Navarro, and Nick Lenfest each recording a hit and scoring a run. Antonio Phaneuf and Cam Caplette each picked up a pair of walks and scored.

Fenway Westfield 15, Little Dog Sales 5
The second game of the season came with cold temperatures and snow. Cameron Cusack pitched three innings with six strikeouts and had two base hits. Eli Perez pitched two innings with three strikeouts, and he had two hits, including an RBI. Colin Cusack, Andrew Melo, and Brandon Parks contributed with hits during the game. Mason Dolan and Noah Luis both had great base running, including stealing home. Liam Dolan had a big RBI double with the bases loaded, which scored three runs. James Coach went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a diving catch at first base. Noah Gardner had an RBI single and an amazing grand slam to center field.

Batter’s Box 8, King Pest Control 7

King Pest Control (0-2) scored in three of the six innings, including two runs in the bottom of the fifth to close the score to a one run deficit. In the bottom of the sixth, Alejandro Rogers walked (his third walk of the game) and with some aggressive base running, made his way to third base, but due to some clutch pitching by the Batter’s Box, could not score the tying run. The Batter’s Box scored five times in the top of the fourth inning, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Brandon Kingsley was 1-2 with a single, walk, two runs scored and a stolen base for King Pest Control. Jayden Santiago scored two runs and pitched an inning with three strikeouts for King Pest Control. Sullivan Donohue started on the mound and pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Eli Petrone pitched a perfect sixth inning with three strikeouts and he also scored a run. Brandon Chapman scored a run as well.

Green Meadow Lumber 11, Bertera Dodge 9

Bertera Dodge fell behind Green Meadow Lumber early and never recovered dropping their second game in a row by a score of 11-9. The team stands at 1–2 on the season.
Trailing 8-2 after two innings, Bertera staged a comeback scoring 6 over the next two innings. The charge was led by Nick Lenfest (4 for 4, 4 singles, 3 runs scored), Alex Guzman (2 for 4, single, double), and Colby LaPoint (4 for 4, 3 singles, double, 4 runs scored). This is as close as they could get, and they were shut down by Green Meadow the rest of the way.

Specialty Bolt & Screw 5, Tucker’s Restaurant 2

Specialty Bolt & Screw (SBS) faced off against tough competitor Tucker’s Restaurant, handing them their first defeat of the season. Tucker’s gained momentum in the third inning when Connor Niemiec hit a double and brought in runs by Sam Yesu and Andrew Bruno, tying the score 2-2. Despite an excellent pitching performance, including nine strikeouts by Niemiec, four strikeouts by Ted Dunn and one strikeout by Brendon Morse, Tucker’s Restaurant was unable to make an offensive comeback.
SBS’s Connor Queenin came out strong on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings. Kosta Kapsanis took over with an excellent 3rd inning performance, during his first appearance as pitcher. Connor Sagan helped the pitchers out with an incredible game behind the plate catching for SBS.
A strong defense secured the win for SBS, and Jake Savoy lead the team with three fielding plays in right field and a bullet throw for an out at first. After moving to shortstop, Queenin helped his team on defense with an unassisted double play. At bat, SBS showed their skill when Walter Ninotti hit a triple and Jaden Peterson knocked out a nice base hit and scored a run for SBS.

King Pest Control 8 Little Dog Sales 5
King Pest Control (1-2) got their first win of the young season after a four run first inning highlighted by RBI hits by Cooper LeClair and Brandon Kingsley. Little Dog Sales scored in four of the six innings and kept the game close throughout. King Pest Control led by four runs, 8-4, heading into the top of the sixth. Little Dog sales scored once in the inning and had two men on base when Eli Petrone, who pitched the last two innings for King Pest Control, struck out the final batter to end the game.
LeClair finished the day with a hit, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored. Kingsley had two extra-base hits (triple and double), two runs batted in and walk. Petrone pitched two solid innings with five strikeouts and scored two runs for the home team. Marcus Cole had two hits and made an outstanding catch in left field in the top of the sixth inning for King Pest Control. Dylan St. Onge also had two hits and a stolen base.
Alejandro Rogers started on the mound for King Pest Control, struck out two hitters and allowed three runs, two of which were unearned, and scored the first run of the day. Sullivan Donohue pitched two innings, struck out three batters, and allowed one run for King Pest Control.

INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE

Westfield Bank 9, Lawry Freight 3

Lawry Freight enthusiastically took the field on beautiful opening day for Westfield Little League Baseball against Westfield Bank. It was a day of many firsts for these young players learning America’s pastime.
Lawry Freight was first to step up into the freshly lined batters box and there were many great swings as batters faced live pitching. The lefty Connor Gillette led the offensive attack recording the team’s first hit of the year with a grounder toward third-base. Timothy Moran earned the first walk for Lawry Freight and subsequently scored its first run. Eight of Lawry Freight’s players earned walks demonstrating great discipline at the plate. Jacob Faunce and Christopher Puza each had a pair of walks to bolster the team.
Defensively Lawry Freight put four pitchers on the mound. Parker Roit, Case Viamari, Nolan Avery, and Evan Wheeler all showed great composure and passion on the hill. Wheeler and Puza also did an outstanding job behind the plate.
Regardless of the final score, the young ballplayers demonstrated good sportsmanship and a strong competitive spirit.

SOFTBALL ROUNDUP
Game Date: April 18, 2015
Westfield Bank 16, OMG 5
Westfield Bank won their Opening Day game behind good pitching and clutch hitting. Westfield bank had excellent pitching by four different pitchers. Ciara Toporowski and Jalyn Almeida pitched two innings each with Izzy Morganelli and Maria Bonfitto closing the game with one inning a piece. The four pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts, only 4 walks, and 5 Runs over 6 innings. Sarah Moriarty had 2 hits with a bases loaded Double in the 1st inning to start the scoring. Jalyn Almeida added 3 hits and 4 RBIs throughout the game, and Izzy Morganelli had 2 hits including another bases loaded double in the 5th inning to round out the scoring for Westfield Bank.

Richards Grinders 19, Hopkins Academy 11
Richards Grinders battled Hadley at Hopkins Academy after 6 innings.
Hadley took an early 4-2 lead after the first inning and Richards Grinders tied the game 4-4 in the second inning after a few walks and Ava Gaughan’s solid hit.
Richard Grinders scored four times in the fourth inning beginning with Ema Sherman solid hit, Ava Gaughan’s second hit of the game, Amber Garfield’s in the park home run, Moirean Coffey, Cloe Spafford and Abby Menzel’s base hit. With a Hadley’s 14-10 lead, Hadley scored five more times in the fifth inning. Richards Grinders scored one more time in the sixth inning after Amber Garfield’s double base hit and a RBI, ending the game 19-11.

Police 13, Dunkin Donuts 6
Police starter, Alejandra Strange, making her little league pitching debut pitched a dominate three innings striking out 9 and allowing only one run. She was also a force at the plate reaching base four times with two RBIs. Julia Bonfitto collected her first little league hit, scored two runs and collected an RBI. Allie Stucenski, Norah Bargatti, Mia Tavares all reached base three times with 2 RBIs each. Lily Trembley, Callie Manfredi, Bryalee Derouin, and Korrina Hooben all reached base twice as well.
