WESTFIELD – There was something in the air last night, at an Amelia Park Arena that was home to so many great moments this year, and in seasons past. As the faithful fans of the St. Mary’s Saints arrived at the rink in droves for an historic opening faceoff, there was an air of anticipation. Something special was about to happen. Saints’ senior captain Trey Tremblay was itching to etch the record books.
Tremblay entered last night’s contest against Chicopee only four points away from joining the vaunted 100-point club at St. Mary’s high school. Nick Masciadrelli, who accomplished that feat a year ago, is the only other Saint to do so.

Similar to a basketball player notching 1,000 points, 100 points in four seasons of varsity ice hockey is a feat reserved for only the truly dedicated athletes among us.
But as he has done all season, Tremblay chose to get his points unselfishly within the flow of the game, as his Saints whipped the visiting Pacers 8-3, in a game that proved to be a great team victory with his fingerprints all over it.
Fans of the green and white grew rabid, as the Saints tacked their first goal on the board after 2:15, as Tremblay hit his brother younger brother Nate for the goal. Following a Chicopee goal, the Saints would land three more punches to the score board, two from forward Zach Slepchuk and one from freshman defenseman Charlie White, with Trey notching another assist on White’s goal.
The second period was much of the same, with Tremblay skating, forechecking and passing his way into both the record books and St. Mary’s lore, tacking another assist on to his total with another alley-oop to his brother for a wrister to give the Saints a 6-2 lead heading into the locker room.
With the puck dropping to start the third period, Amelia was on the verge of explosion, a sense of tension in the air, so thick one could cut it with a knife. And with a minute left, Tremblay became the latest member of the 100 point club with his only goal of the night, a fitting conclusion to a personal odyssey that began four years ago.
“The old saying says that it’s better to give than receive,” the captain said after the game, “I’ve always been a playmaker. Tonight, we knew we had to get points, we know they have playoff implications.”

With the hockey season winding down, Tremblay has begun plotting his next move, as he is considering several prestigious schools, most notably Fairfield University and Providence College. But for now, Trey is focusing on finishing his hockey career with more than just 100 points.

“We’re just trying to win,” he said. “We got South Hadley next, and they’re a great team. We need to play like we’ve been playing. That’s all that matters now.”

The Saints will travel to Fitzpatrick Arena to take on last season’s defending champions, South Hadley, who formerly played for Holyoke, Monday at 1 p.m.
