SOUTHWICK – Jacklyn Hart was named the new Southwick young adult librarian this week.
Southwick Public Library Director Diane Caruso recommended Hart to the Board of Selectmen after vetting three candidates for the position.
“All had library experience, met the minimum requirements and had experience working with teens,” Caruso said. “But Jacklyn has had a lot of work with teens.”
Hart worked at the West Springfield Library as a page while earning her Masters in Library Science and came highly recommended.
“She is well-rounded and has a great personality,” said Caruso. “I think the teens will relate to her, which is important.”
Selectmen were concerned about Hart’s longevity since the last young librarian did not stay long. Caruso said Hart does not aspire to be a library director at this time or move on to another position.
“She told me she wants to be a young adult librarian,” Caruso said
The vote was unanimous to hire Hart.
The Southwick Public library is located at 85 Feeding Hills Road and is open Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesday 1 – 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., and closed Sundays.
