WESTFIELD: Margaret Mary (Powers) O’Connor, 90, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in a local nursing home. She was born in Holyoke on May 22, 1925 to the late Henry and Josephine (Scanlon) Powers. She was raised in Westfield attended local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Westfield High School. She was also a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Mercy Hospital and provided private duty nursing. Margaret enjoyed her home and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary for the past 65 years. The family would like to thank Pamela and Cheryl for the wonderful care that they gave to Margaret. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years former police Chief Gerald O’Connor in 2001. She leaves her children Peg Davis of Westfield, Jerry O’Connor-Fix and her husband Darren of Nashua, NH, Mary Hayes and her husband Dwight of Westfield and Gerry O’Connor and his wife Ann of Merrimack, NH. Margaret also leaves her grandchildren Ted and Jenna Davis, Mallory and Christina Fix, Matt, Kerry and Tim Hayes, and Jim, Holly and Sam O’Connor. She was pre-deceased by her sister Grace Fisk. The funeral Mass for Margaret will be held on Friday February 5th at 12 noon in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
