Commercial Distributing 3, Sons of Erin 1
Commercial Distributing won its season opener with a 3-1 victory over American Division opponent Sons of Erin. For both teams, pitching took center stage.
The scoring began in the first inning with Commercial plating two runs. Leadoff hitter Colby Nadeau nearly left the park with a shot to center field fence but had to settle for a double. He scored on a pass ball to give Commercial their first run. Jay Scherpa, who walked, later scored on an RBI double by Aidan King.
Commercial added to their lead in the fourth inning. Nadeau singled and was moved along with a single by Scherpa. King once again drove in Nadeau to increase the lead to three runs.
Commercial received a complete game gem by pitcher Scherpa. He threw all six innings allowing just 3 hits and striking out 11 batters.
Defensively, Sons of Erin played strong. In the second inning, Bobby Dellapenna made a diving catch from center field to capture the first out of that inning. In the fourth, 3rd baseman Patrick Moore hurried to catch a pop up in out of bounds territory to make the first out of that inning. The game got really interesting in the bottom of the 5th as Sons of Erin mounted a potential comeback inning but were cut down by Commercial’s defense.
Son’s pitchers Scotty Hepburn threw for 10 K’s in 5 innings and Dellapenna threw for 2 K’s in the last inning. Top hitters for Sons of Erin were Calen Matuszczak, Nathan Pudlo, Ted Dunn, and Hepburn each earning a single. Matuszczak was the sole Sons of Erin player to cross home plate. All and all it was a great start to the season.
Westfield Police 7, Camfour 4
Westfield Police opened 2016 season with a win over Camfour 7-4. The game saw a great pitching performance by Kareem Zaghloul who went all 6 innings. The hitting attack was lead by Jacob Wagner with a triple and a pair of singles by Nick Montanaro. Josiah Avalle, Sam Yesu, Dacota Durkee also had hits. Great opening win for Westfield Police.

Camfour 3, Commercial Distributing 0
Starting pitcher Hunter King led Camfour to a 3-0 win over Commercial Distributing at Papermill. With the loss Commercial fell to (1-1).
Camfour scored all 3 of its runs in the third inning taking advantage of 3 hits and a walk. This proved to be enough as Commercial was unable to plate any of the 10 runners that reached base. Pitchers Colby Nadeau and Aidan King kept the game close holding Camfour to 3 hits while striking out 7.
Hitters for Commercial included Nadeau, Kyle Scherpa, Darin Towle, Jeffrey Donahue, and Antonio Phaneuf. Each player recorded a single.
Sons of Erin 14, Advance Manufacturing Company 3
Sons of Erin showed the crowd what it looks like to hit like a team, securing a 14-3 victory vs. Advance Manufacturing Company. Offense for Sons was hot throughout the game as players crossed home plate in every inning. Their bats really exploded in the 5th bringing in a total of 8 runs in that inning alone.
Excitement was already running high as Jeremy McCormick hit a deep in the park homer bringing in another two runs. In addition to McCormick, top scorers for Sons of Erin were Bobby Dellapenna, Caden Matuszczak, Patrick Moore, Scotty Hepburn, Ted Dunn, Bryan Bolio, and Andrew Therrian.
Helping to bring players across home plate were Dellapenna, Moore and McCormick, each with two RBIs as well as Matuszczak, Hepburn, Dunn, Therrian, Noah Gardner and Eli Perez each recording one RBI. With McCormick on the mound for the first four innings with 8 K’s and Dellapenna for 2 innings with 2 K’s the Sons of Erin played like a team and secured their first victory in their second game of the season.

SBS 9, Green Meadow Lumber 6
Great opening game for SBS with a win over Green Meadow Lumber.
Cole Torres pitched three solid innings and Joshua Wagner closed the game for SBS.
SBS hitting attack was lead by Josh Wagner , Johnny Blaze , Lucas Morganelli , and Drew Masters. Steady gloves by Jacob Hanselman, Mason Berube held runners at bay. Good win by Specialty Bolt and Screw.

Batter’s Box 10, Fenway Westfield 0
On Sunday April 17th, the Batters Box took to the field for their first game of the season playing Fenway Westfield. The Batters Box sent Tyler Sampson to the mound who powered through three innings throwing just 36 pitches. Cole Page came on in the 4th throwing 12 pitches.
The defense behind Sampson and Page was spectacular with Ray Vergara turning a huge double play in the 2nd inning getting Sampson out of his only jam. Vergara was just as impressive at the plate knocking in 2 runs and belting a third inning triple. Jonathan Malo who started the game behind the plate catching was 2 for 3 with a single and triple also bringing two runners home. Aaron Gallagher belted 2 hits as well with 2 RBI. Robert Ninotti had a great day at the plate as well 3 RBI. A very solid game one against a great Fenway Westfield team. – Courtesy of Westfield Little League
