West Springfield – Robert J. Colson of Russell was named Director of Public Works for the Town of West Springfield effective yesterday at 9:00 a.m. when he was sworn in by Town Clerk Otto J. Frizzell at the beginning of Mayor Gregory C. Neffinger’s Monday meeting of all Department Heads.
“I look forward to serving the people of West Springfield to make our community the community of choice,” emphasized Mr. Colson. “My door’s always open,” he continued.
Mr. Colson, with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management from New York’s Clarkson University, was selected from five final candidates. He was Assistant Plant Manager at Lane Construction Corporation’s Westfield facility where worked with municipal and state agencies and has expertise in computerized job tracking, budget preparation, and work methods to improve quality and cost efficiencies. He managed a $25 million annual budget and 100 employees.
“The Town of West Springfield is fortunate to have Rob join the team. He has the experience and qualifications to oversee a vital department and its budget,” Mayor Neffinger said.
Mr. Colson is forty-seven years old and will be paid a salary of $87,915.
