11:27 a.m.: Accident, Woodland Avenue. Police received a report of a person who struck their neighbor’s fence with a vehicle. According to police, the accelerator pedal had been mistaken for the brake pedal.
3:31 p.m.: Shoplifting, Meadow’s Market Meadow Street. Police received a report of a person who had allegedly shoplifted an item from the store. Police report the incident is under investigation.
5:30 p.m.: Larceny, Union Street. Police received a report that a flatscreen TV that was stored under a bed allegedly missing, as well as other items. Police reported no forced entry. The incident is under investigation.
6:26 p.m.: Shoplifting and arrest, Walmart Springfield Road. Police received a report from the loss prevention at Walmart of a male party with them who allegedly attempted to walk out of the store with about $35 worth of merchandise. Police also reported the suspect allegedly had “tools to enhance shoplifting,” including a knife and magnets. Police arrested Gary J. Harnden, 29, of Westfield, and charged him with shoplifting using a shielding device.
