Southwick– Edward F. Johnson, age 92, of the Atrium in Agawam and a former long time resident of Lincoln Road, Southwick ; and West Suffield, CT passed away on February 22, 2018 at the Atrium.
Edward was born in Westfield, one of five children to the late Louis H. Sr and Edith Johnson. He was an honorably discharged World War II Coast Guard veteran; serving as a medic. Edward was employed by and retired from Westfield Gage Company. He was extremely instrumental in his work with the Apollo moon lander module. His talent as a machinist brought in many contracts to the company from NASA.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Southwick; and formerly Sacred Heart Parish, Suffield, CT.
Edward was a descendant of the original Mayflower settlers; being granted 300 acres by King George III in Chester, MA; known as Johnson Hill.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, Louis, Jr., Alice, Jesse, and Lois.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon L. Johnson of Westfield, Louise M. Johnson Thomson and her life long partner David, and their son Matthew, of New Britain, Connecticut; along with extended family.
His funeral will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday (Feb. 28) from the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway (Highway 10/202), Southwick with a funeral mass at 10:00AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sheep Pasture Road, Southwick. His burial with rites of committal and military honors will take place in the Spring, in New Cemetery, Southwick. Calling hours for family and friends will take place from 3:00PM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday (Feb. 27) in the funeral home.
