GRANVILLE – Select Board incumbent Ted Sussmann will be serving on the board for a third consecutive term after narrowly defeating first-time challenger Christopher Bouwer by 13 votes, 82 to 69.
“I’m happy to be elected again and I was glad it was a contested election and I think that’s how democracy works,” said Sussmann.
The 48-year-old Sussmann told The Westfield News that education, emergency services, open space, and recreation are the four main areas that he’ll be looking to improve upon moving forward with his next term on the Select Board. Sussmann added that making upgrades and improvements with the garage at the Highway Department is another key priority, including when to make those upgrades and how to pay for it.
“We need to get that into our capital plans,” said Sussman.
While the first-time challenger for a Select Board seat came up short, Bouwer was pleased with his effort.
“I’m happy to see that I was even close, 13 votes is pretty humbling,” said Bouwer.
Although Bouwer isn’t exactly sure what he’d like to do moving forward, he knows that assisting the town in some manner is in his plans.
“I still would very much like to be involved in some capacity,” said Bouwer. “In the coming months I’ll definitely be doing what I can to help out Granville.”
Bouwer also had some positive words for Sussmann.
“Ted’s (Sussmann) a great guy and I wish him the best of luck in his third term,” said Bouwer.
According to Granville Town Clerk Donna Fillion, there were a total of 151 ballots for the Select Board election on Monday out of the 1,168 registered voters in town.
