SOUTHWICK – The Southwick VFW Post 872 is hosting their 2nd Annual Wild Game Dinner on May 5 and according to Post Chairman Troy Henke an awards ceremony will be taking place at 3 p.m. prior to the dinner.
This is the first time that Post 872 is holding an awards ceremony and it provides a chance for the veterans organization to recognize people who have exemplified exceptional service to Post 872 and the community.
“It’s to say thank you to those who have supported us,” said Henke.
Henke added that a total of 20 different citations will be handed out to recipients throughout the community.
Besides the awards ceremony on May 5, Post 872 has also created the Robert C. Miller Public Service award, which was recently created and will be an annual award.
The Robert C. Miller award is awarded to an individual who symbolizes patriotism and loyal service to Post 872 and in the community.
“It’s pretty exciting for us,” said Henke.
Henke noted that the recipient of the award will be announced at the annual town meeting on May 24.
