HUNTINGTON – Friends of the Southern Hilltowns Adult Education Center (SHAEC) have teamed up with the Western Mass Hilltown Hikers for a 5K fundraising walk/hike at the Littleville Dam on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m., in honor of SHAEC’s 20th anniversary of providing free classes to hilltown residents.
For 20 years, SHAEC has been providing classes in GED preparation, computer training, business development, sustainability and wellness at no charge to people living in the hilltowns and beyond. The Friends of SHAEC is asking for support to continue to be able to provide a wide variety of classes free of charge.
Anyone interested in walking may register and donate online at SHAEC.org. If you can’t make the walk, but would like to support the work of SHAEC, or sponsor a walker, you may also donate online at SHAEC.org.
Donations will also be accepted the day of the walk, and are not required to participate. The three walkers that raise the most money will receive a walking stick made by Mike Harper’s woodworking class at Gateway Regional High School, which will be presented at the start of the walk.
Participants should meet at the boat launch parking lot at Littleville Dam on Goss Hill Road (take Rte. 112 to Littleville Rd., then turn right up Goss Hill Rd. Dam is 7/10 of a mile on the left). Plan for two hours for the walk/hike. Maps and bottled water will be provided. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome.
