Construction will begin July 8 on this culvert at the corner of Fred Jackson and Granville roads
SOUTHWICK – Projects on College Highway and Granville Road are scheduled beginning next week and could create some traffic concerns for drivers.
The Granville Road culvert replacement starts July 8. The Town hired Maverick Construction Services to replace the existing drainage culvert on Granville Road that is located between the Fred Jackson Road and Hastings Road intersections.
Department of Public Works Director Randy Brown said the project will take four to six weeks.
“The first few days the work will be on the side of the road, but after that there will be a detour,” said Brown.
The detour will be for all traffic travelling east bound through the site. East bound traffic will be routed south along Fred Jackson Road, onto Klaus Anderson Road, and north on College Highway.
West-bound traffic will continue to be able to travel through the work zone at all times.

The College Highway water main and Jarry Drive water pump station is also taking place this month. The Town hired Ludlow Construction to complete the following improvements to the water system: Replace the existing water main on College Highway from Tannery Road to the Westfield Town, construct a new water pump station near the end of Jarry Drive.
Brown said construction is expected to start in mid/late July and continue through the end of the calendar year.
During construction, traffic on both College Highway and Jarry Drive will be open to traffic in both directions with the assistance of a police detail when needed. Upon project completion, College Highway and Jarry Drive will be repaved.
Brown said the town received funds for paving at the Annual Town Meeting.
“We identified a number of locations for paving,” said Brown. “We will be opening bids next week, but a lot of the projects require drainage work first.”
Streets slated for paving include Nicholson Hill Road, Granville Road, North Longyard Road and Jeffrey Circle.
“This will go a long way in improving our road network, but there are a lot of projects,” said Brown.
Brown said although it’s not a town project, work on Congamond Road continues to create traffic concerns.
“That road will still be under construction for a while. The projected completion is by the end of the calendar year and I have not received an updated schedule,” said Brown of the Massachusetts Department f Transportation project.
Brown said he would post information and updates on the town website periodically throughout construction.
