SOUTHWICK- Southwick Regional School Senior Evelynn Schoenthal received the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents award Dec. 19 from Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School Superintendent Jennifer Willard award.
Willard said that the award is given to a high school student who distinguish him or herself in the pursuit of excellence in their high school careers.
“Evelynn’s determination in the classroom has seen her rise to the top of her class academically, excelling in the area of foreign language and having completed AP Spanish, Evelynn requested an independent course of study with the head of the Spanish department,” said Willard.
She added that Schoenthal is an active member of the school community and had been nominated to the National Honor Society in her Junior year.
Schoenthal was selected to represent the school at Girls State, where she was elected as the town moderator for the event. Girls State and Boys State are programs run by the American Legion Auxiliary that seek to give young students a better understanding of the democratic system.
“Outside of the classroom, Evelynn is a cheerleader and the current president of the Interact Club. She works part time and volunteers with local organizations, including Girl Scouts,” said Willard, “Evelynn’s dedicated work ethic and natural ability to excel are the necessary ingredients for success in the future.”
