WESTFIELD – Mayor Donald F. Humason Jr. is opening the corner office Feb. 6 for a Mayor’s Open House.
The public is encouraged to stop by Room 202 at City Hall from 3:30-6:30 p.m. next Thursday to say hello and see Humason in his office.
“It’s like an office hour, but for three hours,” Humason said. “This is part of the transparency I spoke about.”
Humason said the open house is scheduled prior to a City Council meeting and he hopes visitors will stay to observe the meeting.
“I want people to come in and say hello, have a cookie and see what we’re doing,” Humason said.
Humason’s staff – Michelle Moriarty and Holly Lugo – will be available at that time as well. Cookies will be made by the Westfield Technical Academy culinary department.
Humason said he has spent his first month in office organizing, attending meetings and learning.
“This is a learning curve for me, and I want residents to come in and learn, too,” he said, adding that various department heads would be stopping by throughout the open house to meet visitors.
Humason hopes this will spark future events.
“This may be the first Mayor’s Office Hour, but I’m hoping it will be the first of many and maybe other departments will open their doors for an open house,” he said. “Many times, residents come into a specific office to pay a bill or get information, but they don’t know what happens in other departments. This would be a way for people to get to know folks in City Hall.”
