WESTFIELD – While out shopping for supplies, consider picking up needed items for the Purrs and Paws Kitten Shower being planned by the Westfield Animal Shelter at 178 Apremont Way on April 5 from 12 to 2 p.m.
“We had a lot of kittens last year, about 56 in total. We’re a small shelter. We went through a ton of kitten milk replacement powder, kitten wet and dry food and litter,” said Adoption Coordinator Terri Kutayli.
“This year we decided that we would try get ahead by having a shower to collect supplies needed for the upcoming season,” Kutayli added.
On the wish list for the shower is KMR (kitten milk replacement), kitten nursing bottles and nipples, Snuggle Safe Pet Bed microwave heating pad, Fancy Feast Wet Kitten, Purina Kitten Chow Nurture and gift cards to Petco.
The shower is being co-sponsored with the Non-Profit, Hearts to Pawz Project, which helps with medical expenses for the animals and some of the other shelter needs, Kutayli said.
There is also an Amazon Smile wish list that can be found under the charity list, by searching Hearts to Pawz Project. To buy specific items via Amazon Smile, see the Kitten Supplies Wish List under Hearts to Pawz Project Kitten Shower. All proceeds go directly to the animals at the shelter.

The kittens have already begun to arrive at the shelter, with the first litter of four born on March 1.
The shelter is closed to the public due to COVID-19, but animal control is available 24/7, and staff is at the shelter daily caring for the needs of the animals in their care.
If a resident’s animal is picked up as stray, they will work with the owner to make arrangements for reunification.
They are also making arrangements for people who are interested in adopting an animal to come in by appointment.
If residents would like to license their dogs, they are asked to mail in the registration form, a copy of the rabies certificate and a check for the appropriate amount. License registration forms can be found online by going to City of Westfield, click on departments, click on Animal Control, and scroll to the bottom for Dog Licenses.
The Westfield Animal Shelter can be reached at 413 564 3129.
