WESTFIELD-For some dance studios in the area, owners did not “miss a beat,” according to Loree Cloud, studio owner and director of New England Dance and Gymnastics Centers on Southwick Road.
“You can’t keep great dancers down for long,” said Cloud, noting on March 23 she moved to an online program for both recreational and competitive classes.
“We created an innovative, fun and collaborative online dance program that’s as close to the real thing as you can get,” said Cloud.
Cloud noted her “award winning, all-adult teaching staff” is continuing to keep their students engaged with innovative, fun and well-balanced classes tailored to an online experience. Last week, in particular, students had master ballet classes with Virginia Lensi, an Italian ballet star with the American Ballet Theatre in New York City.
“This type of experience lets kids know that they are not alone and that joy can happen if you want to make it happen and can connect with other people that feel the same way,” said Cloud.
Like many local businesses that are “working to keep their communities united and strong,” Cloud said she made all online classes optional and “pay as you go” to help families on a budget.
“Everyone knows it can be tough to keep your spirits up when you’re stuck at home,” said Cloud. “But dance is an excellent way to keep your body, mind and heart happy, and this 40-year-old Westfield business plans to continue to share that love for dance with dancers from Westfield and neighboring towns for another 40 years.”
