‘Secret Santa and the Angry Elves’ toy drive underway
SOUTHWICK – With the coronavirus pandemic cloud overhead for the foreseeable future, many people are thinking about the winter holidays earlier this year, especially Christmas.
Many merry-makers have already decorated their trees and yards and are looking forward to some cheer. The Southwick Civic Fund is also making plans for the season and is hosting a socially distant Drive-Thru Santa Selfie event Dec. 12.
“Residents of Southwick, Tolland and Granville are welcome to drive up and have a photo taken with Santa – either using their phone or we will take one and email it,” said Southwick Civic Fund founder Joseph Deedy.
The event takes place at Deedy’s Moolicious Farm at 258 Feeding Hills Road from 2-6 p.m.
‘We plan to have Christmas trees in the background and we purchased a snow machine,” said Deedy.
Families must register in advance at signupgenius.com. Deedy said this was something Fund members wanted to do to brighten the holidays at a time when so many traditions are being canceled or altered.
“This will take the place of seeing Santa at Town Hall,” he said. “It’s something that’s almost like normal for kids.”
The Southwick Civic Fund is also continuing its holiday drive known as “Santa and the Angry Elves.” This is a program that collects toy donations for children and teens.
“This is open to families in Southwick, Tolland and Granville who could use gifts for Christmas,” said Deedy. “Anyone in need should fill out an application on our website. There are only a few questions families must answer to receive gifts.”
Donations of toys for children age newborn to 15, as well as donations of wrapping paper, can be dropped off at Moolicious Farm Tuesday – Friday from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 12-8 p.m.
The program typically provides gifts for up to 45 families.
