WESTFIELD – Dorothy E. Burke (1933-2023) of Westfield, Massachusetts died on Monday, March 13th, 2023 after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late George P. Burke, Jr. and the daughter of the late Dr. David W. Pope and Helen Catherine Pope of Brockton, Massachusetts.
Dorothy graduated from Brockton High School in 1951 and was a graduate of the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ. She worked at the Phillips House at Massachusetts General Hospital as a dietician and was later the Director of School Food Services for Westfield Public Schools until her retirement after 22 years.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, William D. Pope and sister-in-law, Judith A. Pope of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts and was predeceased by her siblings Barbara A. Ball, David W. Pope, Jr, and Cornelia R. Kuliesh. Dorothy is also survived by several nieces and nephews from the Pope, Ball, and Kuliesh families and her dear friend Cynthia H. Ford of Alexandria, Virginia.
Dorothy was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many summers sailing with her husband George on Long Island Sound. She took great pride in her home and used her culinary expertise to host dinners for family and friends. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and spending time in Marco Island, Florida.
A service will be held on Friday, March 17th, 2023 at 10 am at the Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA 01085 followed by a Mass at Our Lady of The Blessed Sacrament in Westfield and Internment at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA.
