WESTFIELD – With sadness in our hearts our precious Mother, Camilla Campione Mattia (AKA MaMa) sadly passed away 90 years young (1932-2023), Friday, April 7th, 2023 peacefully at home. She will now be with our dad, her husband of 60 years, Taddeo “Ted” Mattia (1931-2009); her parents Vincenzo and Ersina Campione, and many beautiful relatives and friends. Heaven is even more heavenly now. She was born in Calabritto, Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1950. A surprise 90th birthday with 100 of her friends and family was celebrated in September of 2022. We are so grateful for that day. MaMa was employed for well over 30 years at Old Colony Envelope. She volunteered at Noble Hospital for 2 decades; Cancer House of Hope, the Governors House, St. Mary’s Church and countless others in need.… She loved her weekly quilting club and made so many wonderful friends there. She both donated and gifted quilts to family and friends. She enjoyed so many amazing family traditions over the years; canning tomatoes on the fireplace in the backyard; making wine; holiday gatherings; gardening; making her Italian cookies, biscotti, and her famous lemon cake. She was always generous, making those around her so happy.
She is survived by her loving children: son, Joseph Mattia and Carolynn Crawford, of Framingham, MA; son, Vincent Mattia and wife, Kathleen, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and daughter, Gerry “Bean” Mattia currently in Westfield, MA. She is blessed and cherished by her grandchildren: Christopher and wife Erica, (Lynnfield, MA); Daniel and wife Beth, (Northborough, MA) and Brianna (Chicago, IL). She was in love with her 7 great-grandchildren—Lauren, Michael, Matthew, Madison, Reagan, Parker and James—her most precious gifts. She also leaves two surviving sisters Maria and Lina both in New Jersey. Every night they would talk to each other on the telephone, sharing memories and laughing a lot! They all had such a special bond. In MaMa’s words “all we need is respect for one another, love for one another and kindness—what else do we need.” She brought smiles, laughter and joy to everyone who ever met her. She touched so many lives. She will be terribly missed, but always in our hearts.
