Marilyn Pitoniak

WESTFIELD – Marilyn Pitoniak was called home on March 11th at the age of 93.  She was born Marilyn Marshall on March 31st, 1930.  After graduating from Holy Name School in Chicopee, she went on to become a nurse.  She married George Siering while she was getting a Masters in Clinical Psychology and had a daughter, Christina. After her husband lost a 6-year battle with cancer, she moved back to Chicopee, to the same street where she grew up.  She later married James Pitoniak, a middle school teacher in Westfield Massachusetts.  Although Marilyn was well-educated and very driven, she was unapologetically a wife and mother first.  Marilyn was very active in her church and prison ministry and enjoyed camping and canoeing with her husband Jim.

She is preceded by her parents, Walter and Margaret (Haggerty) Marshall, her two brothers, Walter Emerson Marshall and Ronald Marshall, her first husband, George Siering, and her son-in-law, Alan Gibson.

She leaves behind by her loving husband Jim Pitoniak, her daughter, Christina and her husband James Bailey; their three children, Blaise, Xavier and Ava Bailey; her stepson Jerome and his wife Kim, their three children Matthew, Andrew and Samantha Pitoniak; her stepdaughter Jennifer (Pitoniak) Gibson, and Jennifer’s three daughters Rebecca, Sarah, and Hannah Gibson.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, March 22nd from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. A Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter and St. Casimir Parish, 34 State Street, Westfield. Burial will be private. Firtionadams.com
