BLANDFORD – Sumner W. Robbins was born in Blandford, MA to the late Philip L. Robbins and Sarah H. (Healy) Robbins on September 28th, 1925.
He graduated from Westfield High School class of 1944 and from Northeastern University Springfield Division (now Western New England University) class of 1951. He worked for the former Lyman Electronic Corp. Springfield for 4 years. He worked at American Bosch, later a division of United Technologies for 36 years progressing from Draftsman to Senior Engineer. When the plant closed, he retired.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Blandford for many years. He was a Deacon for 10 years and co-chair of the White Church Restoration Committee. He was a member and a Director Emeritus of the Blandford Historical Society. He was a past member of the board of the COA. He served the town of Blandford on the Zoning Board of Appeals for 35 years, as Chairman for 30 years. His decisions were based on preserving Blandford as a good place to live and preserving the character of the town.
He enjoyed fishing, hiking, gardening, traveling with his camper and reading as he aged.
He was predeceased by a brother Wilfred G. in 1947, a sister Sarah L. (Sally) Robbins in 2010 and a sister Alta H. (Robbins) Rhodes in 2014.
He is survived by friends and 2 cousins.
Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. The funeral will be held in the White Church, 4 North Street, Blandford on Monday, May 20th at 11 a.m. A calling hour will be held from 10-11 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow in North Blandford Cemetery. Firtionadams.com
