WESTFIELD – James P. Smith, aged 86, (1940-2026) of Westfield, MA, passed away on August 16th, 2026. Born on February 15th, 1940, James led a fulfilling life marked by a diverse professional and personal journey.
James spent many years as the meat manager at Big Y Supermarkets, where he was respected for his work ethic and leadership. He also served as an Auxiliary Police Officer for the town of Westfield, dedicating his time to the safety and well-being of the community. Additionally, he pursued his passion for antiques, operating as an antique dealer which allowed him to travel and explore various cultures and histories.
A man of many interests, James was an avid collector of antiques and could often be found at yard sales and flea markets, searching for unique finds to sell at Brimfield and his antique shop. His love for travel was well-known, as he enjoyed numerous cruises and adventures around the world, always appreciating the opportunity to meet new people and experience different walks of life.
James was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Jennie Hebert of Scarborough, Maine, Christie Chamberland and her husband Michael of Durham, Maine, and Theresa McNulty and her husband Joe of East Bridgewater, MA; and his son, Robert Bellucci, Sr. and wife Laurie of Springfield, MA. He also leaves behind his sisters, Marlene Hanchuk of Feeding Hills, MA, and Nancy Dias and her husband Frank of Middleton, New York. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Diane (Bennett), and his parents, Gerald and Francine Smith.
James will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his love for his family, and his enthusiasm for life and many adventures. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
