The Westfield 14 year old All Star team lost to Franklin County 3-2 Sunday in a well pitched match by both teams. Westfield pitchers Jared Iglesias, John O’Brien, and Sam Brochetti combined to give up only 4 hits in the losing effort. Franklin County’s pitcher Cory Schillin went the distance earning the win and also allowing only four hits.
Westfield opened the scoring in the first with a triple by John O’Brien, who eventually scored on a passed ball. Franklin County answered with one run in the top of the second with an RBI single by Tyler Jaeger. Westfield took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning when Noah LaPlante singled, stole second, and scored on a two out RBI single by Sam Brochetti. Franklin County then tied the game in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth, both by unearned runs. Westfield could not answer as their bats were silenced by Schillin.
Both teams return to action today at 5:30pm at Abercombie Field in Greenfield.
