GRANVILLE – The search is on for a new principal at Granville Village School.
Principal Anna-Stina Wardlaw resigned at the end of last school year and Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional Schools Superintendent Dr. John Barry said a screening committee was formed to review applicants.
“We had a strong pool of applicants ,” Barry said.
The district received 32 resumes for the position.
“We are very happy with the interest,” said Barry. “It’s a small school and I think that appeals to people looking to be a principal for the first time.”
Barry also said the economy likely played a role in the large number of interested candidates. The search committee has narrowed the field of candidates down to several qualified finalists.
“We will interview half of the candidates this Thursday and the other half the following Thursday,” said Barry. The committee will then make its recommendations.
“Traditionally, you don’t want too many finalists – not more than two of three,” Barry said.
Until a principal is hired, math teacher Jodi Wagner, a 10-year veteran of Granville Village School, will serve as the head teacher for the K-8 school.
“She is doing all the organizational work to open the school and she is doing a good job,” said Barry.
School begins Aug. 29. Barry said there are a few issues because it is the first year Granville is part of the district.
“We’re working it out,” he said.
Barry expects to have the final candidates narrowed down by Sept. 6 and final interviews should be held in public sessions.
