Hi. This question is for Tink Hartdegen, the tree lady. I was wondering if there are any plans to trim the trees in downtown Westfield before the paving starts. I noticed, in particularly, that right across from Westfield Bank there are a lot of trees with dead branches and one that’s bending way over almost into the road. Those trees need attention I hear you’re the person who keeps an eye on them. Thank you.
Good day, Southwick. I had a conversation or two with members of the Southwick Rec. Center Board of Directors and coaches and was told a few times (over Whalley Park) that Southwick taxpayers need the Southwick Rec. Center, they don’t need us and we should do things their way. Meaning they should use Whalley Park, that is going to be turned over to Southwick taxpayers to support, and we should do things their way with no cost to them. I don’t agree with this. They’re charging astronomical prices for children to play sports. There’s an awful lot of money going into that rec. center. They don’t need to be getting richer off our backs.
It’s nice that the people on Lathrop Avenue planted beautiful flowers on the tree belt but now they have to maintain it by cutting the grass that’s about three feet high. How about getting to it?
Good afternoon. I found a wallet by the Pride Station on East Main Street in Westfield and turned it into the police department. So if anyone lost a wallet in that general area, I did turn it over to the Westfield Police Department. Have a nice day and go get your wallet back.
Would like to say how horrible it was to drive by and see a tree that is about 80 years old being taken down on Cross Street. The mayor should be ashamed of himself for taking town this tree as well as destroying a historic building. Shame on the historical society for allowing this to happen.
Hello. Mr. Mayor, could you give us a little indication of what streets are going to be paved in the City of Westfield this fall? I know Paper Mill Road from Union Street is in horrendous condition. We in this area would love to see from Union Street to Joseph Avenue paved. It would give us a tremendous amount of satisfaction. Please do your best. It’s all we ask. You can do the rest of Paper Mill Road at a later date because the condition of that road is 70 percent better in comparison. Can you help us, please? The damaged section of Union Street will likely get paved this year. Paper Mill Road hasn’t yet been accepted as a city street, so new paving can’t happen until the acceptance process is completed. Notice of paving of other streets should be given by the city soon and we will publish it when it is.
Good morning. I’m calling in regards to the Northside where the new construction is taking place by the two bridges. The road coming from the Turnpike into the center of Westfield is a speedway as soon as they hit Westwoods Restaurant. Everyone is in a rush to get into the one lane area near Pasquale’s Pizza and tend to go 40 or 50 plus miles per hour. I feel sorry for what I think is the Number 1 store, which is the Butcher Block, and the Number 2 store which is a fireplace store. They need a little slowing down in that general area. Can I suggest traffic signs for 25 miles per hour and a bump in the road that will actually bounce them up and down so they can’t go flying by their stores at 50 miles an hour? And they do it. Mr. Mayor, I wish you would help out those two businesses and I’m sure others will appreciate it, too. Mr. Mayor, take note. Please. Thank you for your time. The street leading up to the top the bridge was originally posted at 15 mph. The signs are now no longer posted. The city has asked MassDOT to repost the street at 25mph.
