12:19 p.m.: larceny, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to complain that a sign was stolen from his business overnight, the responding officer reports the complainant said that a 10 foot by 12 foot sign which had been in place at 2 p.m. was found to have been stolen the next morning;
12:35 p.m.: larceny, Mill Street, a caller from a business at the former mill reports that a customer entered without paying and assaulted a staff member who confronted her, the responding officer reports that employee said that the woman struck her when she asked for payment, the suspect told the officer that she had entered to pick up her handicapped mother and when the employee started to remonstrate and was pointing her finger in her face she slapped the woman’s hand away, the officer advised the manager that he could seek a criminal complaint at Westfield District Court if he chooses to;
3:44 p.m.: larceny, West Road, a caller reports a chainsaw and a can of gas were stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that the chainsaw and gas can had been stored under a covering and the property including the covering have been stolen, the caller said that three kittens were found where the property had been;
3:50 p.m.: narcotics violation, Stanley Park, 400 Western Ave., a caller reports a person at the park is smoking marijuana, the responding officer reports the caller said that he asked a young man smoking marijuana to put it out because his children were in the area and the youth laughed and relit the cigarette, the caller pointed out the vehicle the youth had been operating and the officer reports he was able to see marijuana inside the vehicle and called the registered owner who came to the park and said that his son uses the vehicle, the man called his son who emerged from the woods at the park, a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
4:17 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Holyoke Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to have been revoked for lack of insurance, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
5:42 p.m.: animal complaint, Pontoosic Road, a caller reports a dog wandered into her yard the night before during a storm, an animal control officer responded to transport the dog to the Westfield Animal Shelter;
7:49 p.m.: animal complaint, Paper Mil Road, a caller reports a bat in her garage, the responding officer reports the woman said that her husband was going to try to remove the animal but she was concerned that it may carry rabies, the officer reports he was able to remove the bat from the garage;

9:07 a.m.: fire, Springfield Road, caller from a Springfield Road professional building reports smoke is coming from the elevator room, dual response dispatched, the building was evacuated, the responding firefighters report smoke was found in the elevator room and on the second floor, the smoke was found to be coming from an elevator control, the elevator was posted “out of service” and the building management was advised to have the elevator serviced before resuming use, the building was ventilated and re-opened for use;
10:23 a.m.: fire, East Main Street, a caller from a fitness center reports fire in a dryer, the responding firefighters report smoke was found to have been caused by a washing machine belt and the washing machine was taken out of service, the building was ventilated to remove the smoke;
12:48 p.m.: assist citizen, Southwick Road, a caller reports he dropped his wallet in the parking lot of a convenience store and found it gone when he returned in search of it, a clerk at the store found that a security video showed a customer known to the clerk pick it up, the victim called the station less than an hour later to report that the person who picked up the wallet returned it to him;
1:16 p.m.: identity fraud, Morningside Drive, a resident reports via the Internet that her debit card was fraudulently used to order merchandise online, the woman reported that she had consulted her bank and the account was closed, the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the detective bureau;
1:39 p.m.: vandalism, School Street, a building manager called to report that the front window of a School Street building was broken over the weekend, the responding officer reports the tenant said that the glass had been intact when he left on Friday and was broken Monday morning, the caller does not require action but wants the incident documented;
1:46 p.m.: school investigation, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, a school resource officer reports that he was notified of a custodial issue facing a pupil at the school, the Department of Children and Families was notified;
3:15 p.m.: larceny, Western Mass. Electric Company, Oakdale Street, a caller reports the theft of copper, the responding officer reports the caller at an electrical substation reported that 100 feet of one inch copper wires used to ground the fence is missing, the wire was estimated to be worth $30 per foot, the case was referred to the Detective Bureau;
8:33 p.m.: fire, Franklin Avenue, a caller reports smoke from a neighbor’s campfire is coming into his house, the responding firefighters report the resident was advised of the complaint and instructed to extinguish his camp fire;
9:13 p.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller reports a pair of shoplifters stole from a Springfield Road department store, the responding officer reports that store staff advised him that a couple had been seen in the store concealing merchandise upon their persons and when they left they paid for only some of the merchandise, the couple left in a vehicle which was stopped by the responding officer and the operator eventually admitted that she and her passenger had been shoplifting, a comparison of the woman’s receipt with the merchandise found in the vehicle indicated that merchandise valued at more than $250 had been stolen, Daniel Croteau, 24, and April Johnson, 20, both of 1 Belden Court, Agawam, were each arrested for shoplifting by asportation.
