WESTFIELD – The Westfield Voc-Tech boys’ soccer team scored three goals in the first 30 minutes (15th, 17th, 30th), and added three more second-half goals – two in the first eight minutes – to cruise past Hampden County School of Science 6-1 yesterday.
Tyler Hall and Colin Fecteau scored two goals apiece, Dimitriy Stepanchuk (assist) and Alex Makurchuk (assist) had one each.
Peter Makurchuk, Roman Tikhonchuk, and Nelson Roque also had one assist apiece. It was the first varsity assist for Tikhonchuk, a freshman.
“It was good to see everyone get involved,” Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “It was a total team win.”
Dulude said everyone received equal playing time, and that the win was well timed with the team’s league opener set for Friday at Pioneer Valley Christian School.
Voc-Tech improved to 2-1.
Southwick 0, South Hadley 0
Southwick participated in another evenly matched contest, netting a tie for the third time in four games to begin the season. The Rams are now 0-3-1.
Patrick King (6 saves) and Tim Reardon (3 saves) earned the shutout in net.
JV BOYS’ SOCCER
Southwick 4, South Hadley 3
Southwick rallied from a 2-1 deficit, scoring three second-half goals to earn the win. Adam Lane, Brandon Smith, Ryan Todesco, and Jacob Stathers each scored for the Rams (3-1).
Todesco had two assists, and Smith and Declan O’Donnell each had one.
Southwick defenders Jared Arsenault, Brett Giddis, Will Pratt, and Riley O’Connor recovered to hold South Hadley to just one second-half goal.

Noah Parker shot a par-35 at Quaboag Country Club to lead St. Mary’s.
Saints’ Zach L. Brown (39), Zach S. Brown (43), Corey Clemente (49), Lydon Ondrick (44), and Sam Thresher (47) won at each position for the Saints.
