Why don’t more Southwick residents use Prifti Park? It’s an excellent park for playing catch, basketball and volleyball. It has an extremely nice fenced-in playground for the children, a picnic area and a parking area. It’s behind the Town Hall… Check it out.

Superintendent Scallion responded to my PulseLine comment. However, she never indicates why the teachers do not have the needed training prior to the commencement of school.  She never said who is actually running these meetings. But, we sure are paying for them, at close to 3/4 million dollars. If the required training is so desperately and urgently required, waiting till close to 2/3 of the way thru school year to get this done seems like it is not so urgent. I would like to ask what is level 3? When Ms. Scallion communicates with closely this held nomenclature, we as parents have little idea what you are talking about. Your primary job is an educator. Educate us to what you are doing and why. Is this the reasons for the change from quarterly marking periods to three? In regards to all the after-school programs, no doubt there are good people working there. Hey, if you want to pay for them, go ahead. No doubt some parents have found this a workable solution.

I read in Friday’s PulseLine where someone wants a section of Stanley Park to be designated for a dog park. Absolutely not! That park is beautiful and we don’t need to make it into a cow pasture for dogs. If you have dogs, entertain them at your own place. Thank you. Bye.

Hi. I’m a cross country truck driver and would like to know how people can support, in the trucking industry, people who have been busted for drugs. We are drug tested and these people are criminals just trying to make a fast buck. As a truck driver this isn’t right and any trucker that went to that party should have their license revoked.

I’m calling about the two truckers in Wyoming that a local establishment had a party for to bring them home. Why do we want two drug dealers back in Westfield? Two felons that broke the law? Why would anyone want them back here?

First off I would like to applaud the City of Westfield for finally enforcing pedestrian laws, or trying to enforce pedestrian laws, it’s long overdue. Secondly, as a resident of Westfield living in the Western Avenue area, I think you need to address this area. If you are going to enforce pedestrian laws, you should first make sure the pedestrians are crossing legally on a crosswalk controlled by a pedestrian light. Most people don’t realize that when there’s a pedestrian light they have the obligation to cross at that light and not just cross at free will. The Westfield Police should go up there at 3:30 or 3:45 in the afternoon and sit and watch the college kids leaving the fitness center in herds to cross over to Stanley Park (which they think they own). So I think the City of Westfield should address this problem, also. Thank you.

I’m driving around at 1:12 in the afternoon by the Home Depot and there’s the bald eagle again, just flying around. That’s pretty cool!

I was reading a comment in the PulseLine the other day where someone thinks that since Stanley Park has so much land, the dog park should be there. Stanley Park has done enough for the people of Westfield. The people who have dogs and want a private place can get a little group together and pay for it themselves. Who wants to go up there and listen to dogs barking? They probably wouldn’t pick up after their dogs anyways so stay away from Stanley Park. Thank you.

Why does the Food Bank need a separate office? Do they have that much money now?

Hi. I read Representative Humason’s article in the paper about the guy in jail who murdered his wife and is now asking for the state to pay for his sex change. If this is allowed to happen it’s the final straw for me; I’m moving to Canada. This system is so screwed up.

Hi. I’d like to start by saying I enjoy your Around Town section on Page 2 and by wishing “Kadie” a happy 16th birthday. Unfortunately, my little girl went to doggie heaven last week, two months shy of her 16th birthday. You know that day will come but it’s still such a painful time. I’m calling about the recent comments about “Thomas” and agree one hundred percent with the caller who blames Thomas’ demise on his human caretakers. There’s nothing twisted about the caller who stated that facts as they are. Think about it. Thomas may not have been the target of the pellet, it could have ricocheted off another object and Thomas happened to catch it. Also, could he have broken his leg from a fall or by getting it stuck somewhere? No one will ever know. So don’t try to ease your guilt by placing the blaming on someone else other than yourself. You and you alone chose not to take on the expense of rehabilitating your cat. Also when you solicit donations toward a reward people who give money expect it to go to that cause, not to a shelter or whatever you change your mind to. To the second caller on Saturday and to use your words, are you serious? Let me start by saying when you call people names to get your point across, it just makes you look small. Try to remember that if you happen to call in again. Secondly, a responsible pet owner just doesn’t open the door and send their pet on its merry way. A responsible pet owner puts a harness and a leash on their animal and takes it outside. They can also be tethered to a clothesline if possible. Too much bother, you say? Then don’t have a cat. And, finally, to whoever was calling a while back about someone stealing cats. Well, guess what? Cats and small dogs make wonderful meals for hungry coyotes that roam the streets of Westfield in search of their next meal. Don’t dismiss me as the cat hater. My last cat lived to be over 17 years old and, yes, she was an indoor cat. Thank you for taking my call.

The article about the two truck drivers out in Wyoming who got busted for drugs and said they didn’t know what was in their truck are a bunch of liars. Every trucker knows what is in his load with his manifest sheet. They’re nothing but drug dealers coming back to this city.

If you’re getting calls from ALA, that is the American Lung Association. The numbers they are calling from are 202-350-0286 or 202-350-0488. If you get these calls, call their Springfield number which is 737-3506 and complain to them. You have to fight fire with fire. I told them every time I get a robo call, I’m going to call them and waste their time. Thanks.

To all cat owners: Leashes are not just for dogs anymore. They are also for cats to give them the opportunity to enjoy the outside with their owners.

Southwick residents: Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have two signs in front of the cemetery. One stating when the old cemetery was established, because it is one of the oldest cemeteries in Western Mass., and one in front of the new cemetery.

I understand the Southwick Fire Department is looking for volunteers to become firefighters and EMTs. I know we have a few EMTs now who are covering all shifts and are doing a fantastic job. My question is when will we have paramedics in Southwick? Thank you.

It’s almost October now and I was just wondering when the city was going to get around to painting all the crosswalks to the schools. Half of them look terrible and you can’t even tell there’s a crosswalk there. They should be done right away but they’ll probably wait until next June or July.

Now that the Superintendent of Schools has authorized 10 half days for teacher workshops, could someone please tell me why they don’t have five full days off instead of 10 half days? It would be much easier on the parents to arrange for five full days off instead of 10 half days. And, I would like to know if anyone out there could please tell me, and that includes Madame Superintendent, if anything ever gets accomplished on a half day of school? They’re eating lunch at 10:00 a.m. just to get them out the door to make the day a legal day in the eyes of the state. I know from speaking to a lot of teachers that they all say it’s a giant waste of time. I remember when I was in school, the one day we had was the day before Thanksgiving and that, too, was a giant waste of time.
