SOUTHWICK – The Board of Selectmen Monday night agreed to waive individual hawkers and peddlers permits for Southwick Daze vendors.
Southwick Daze is a two-day event set for Oct. 6-7 to coincide with the Granville Harvest Fair. The event is being organized by the Southwick Economic Development Commission (EDC) and will feature food and drinks, entertainment and more behind the Southwick Inn. Businesses and other vendors are invited to set up tables and booths in the parking lot to sell their wares and advertise their business.
EDC Director Michael McMahon said the event was a way to draw the crowds passing through Southwick on the way to the Granville Harvest Fair.
McMahon approached the board on the topic of permits during its regular meeting Monday night. Originally the board’s consensus was that individual vendors would need to obtain a permit through the board’s office at Town Hall. However, Selectman Russell Fox said because it was a town event, he did not believe it was necessary.
“Because this is a town sponsored event, we would not need to issue hawkers and peddlers permits,” said Fox.
However, the board agreed that any vendor selling food or beverages would be required to obtain a permit through the Board of Health.
There was some speculation that the Southwick Inn, which has secured two one-day outdoor liquor licenses, would be the only business selling food and drinks. However, board members said in case any other vendors wanted to do the same they must go through proper town channels.
Any business interested in participating in Southwick Daze should contact Brenda LeDuc at 977-9410 to save a free space.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The EDC suggests tag and bake sales, candle companies, jewelry makers, gift shops and more will be among the vendors.
