Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012
3:05 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, an off duty officer reports he observed an apparent narcotics transaction, the responding officer reports one of the involved parties was queried and allowed the officers to inspect his vehicle, ten packets of heroin, several hundred dollars in cash and medical supplies used for injections were found, Victor Bermudez, 23, of 69 Court St., was arrested for possession of a Class A drug with intent to distribute (a subsequent offense);
4:05 p.m.: trespassing, Stone Path, a caller reports an ongoing issue with children trespassing and ringing his doorbell and said that two of the children are hiding in woods near his house, the responding officer reported the man showed him video evidence of a masked youth at his door, the caller’s mailbox and a neighbor’s mailbox have been vandalized, the officer reports that a search of the area did not yield any suspects and efforts to identify the suspects were not immediately successful;
6:50 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired and the vehicle was towed;
7:20 p.m.: assist other police department, Fowler Street, a detective reports he received a query from State Police detectives regarding the location of the subject of an outstanding warrant, the detective reports he was able to determine a possible address for the subject and accompanied troopers there where the suspect was found walking his dog, Dennis Rosa-Roman, 21, of 94 Pearl St., Springfield, was arrested on the warrant;
7:36 p.m.: larceny, Orange Street, a detective reports he initiated an ongoing investigation into an incidence of jewelry theft;
7:54 p.m.: larceny, Ellsworth Street, a resident came to the station to report that her credit card was used without authorization, the responding detective reports the complainant said that her credit card was stolen and between Sept. 12-16 it was used for multiple transactions totaling more than $1,000;

Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012
1:43 a.m.: parking violation, Howard Street, a patrol officer reports he checked a vehicle found parked on a treebelt and found its registration to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
10:18 a.m.: fire, George Street, a caller from a supervised living program reports flames in a resident’s bedroom, the responding officer reports the residence had been evacuated when he arrived and all residents were accounted for, firefighters extinguished the fire, removed a burning mattress, the resident said that she had been smoking and thought she had extinguished her cigarette in an ashtray; see story in Friday’s edition of The Westfield News;
10:59 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he stopped an uninspected vehicle and found that the operator’s license was suspended, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
2:56 p.m.: fire, Shaker Road, a caller reports a burning complaint, the responding firefighters report the resident was advised of the pertinent city ordinances and extinguished the fire;
4:03 p.m.: officer wanted, Root Road, a caller reports a arrow struck her roof, the responded officer reports he observed an arrow embedded in the roof, the caller does not require a formal report but wants the incident documented;
6:20 p.m.: assist citizen, Pontoosic Road, the domestic violence advocate requests an officer to escort a female party as she collects a dining room set from her former residence, the officer reports the woman gathered her belongings without incident;
8:16 p.m.: breaking and entering, Elm Street, a caller reports his vehicle was entered and property was stolen, the responding officer reports the caller said that he parked his car in the municipal parking lot about 1 p.m. and when he returned after work about 8:15 p.m. he found that property had been stolen from his car, the man said that he habitually locks his vehicle but the officer reports no point of entry could be found, two pairs of sunglasses valued at about $200 each and a iPod were stolen from the glove compartment of the car;
9:03 p.m.: found property, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to report that she found several hundred dollars on the ground on Elm Street, the manager of a nearby restaurant said that a license had been found and surrendered to him, the property was held for safe keeping;
11:34 p.m.: breaking and entering, Southwood Acres, 342 Southwick Road, a caller reports her apartment has been burglarized, the responding officer reports the woman said she returned home to find her door had been kicked in, the officer reports the woman said that she could not find anything missing, the resident said that the intruder must have been known to her dog because he did not create a mess, the caller later reported that she believes her former boyfriend broke in to say goodbye to her dog because he posted statements on a social networking web site stating that he was saying goodbye and was done with everything;
11:53 p.m.: accident, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a number of persons outside an Elm Street bar where a parked vehicle had been struck by a passing Jeep, the officer reports he identified the suspect operator who was found to be unsteady on his feet and failed a field sobriety test, John J. Fitzgibbon, 55, of 6 Columbia St., was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor and for negligent operation of a motor vehicle;

Friday, Oct. 5, 2012
12:27 a.m.: arrest, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a male party setting a row of traffic cones across Elm Street, the officer reports he stopped and the suspect fled but was found hiding nearby, Airek Douglas, 20, of 16 Bretton Road, Springfield, was arrested for disorderly conduct;
1:47 a.m.: larceny, Church Street, a resident came to the station to report his bicycle was recently stolen, the respond officer reports the man said that he parked his bike in an alley near Church Street at about 12:30 p.m. and found it gone when he returned;
2:14 a.m.: disturbance, a caller reports hearing her neighbors who are involved in a loud disturbance, the responding officer reports a male party with scratches on his neck which were bleeding answered the door and he also spoke with a woman with red marks on her chest, the woman said that she was assaulted by the man during an argument which developed when she returned from a bar, William F. Matthews, 25, of 23 Frederick St., was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
3:05 a.m.: incapacitated person, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington Street, a person arrested about midnight was released on bail but found to be still too intoxicated to care for himself and he was placed in protective custody until 8 a.m. when he was provided a courtesy transport to his home;
9:30 a.m.: school investigation, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Ave., a school resource officer reports an administrator advised him that a on Thursday a pupil had been found to be in possession of a pipe and container which showed signs of marijuana residue, the boy was suspended from school and referred to substance abuse counseling, the officer reports a city ordinance violation citation was issued;
12:50 p.m.: found property, an officer reports he inventoried property left at the station and a multicolored cloth handbag which contained no items of significant value or identification was stored for safe keeping;
3:34 p.m.: larceny, Tekoa Terrace, a resident came to the station to report that cash was stolen from his home, the responding officer reports the complainant said that several thousand dollars in cash he keeps on hand to pay his household staff was stolen from a desk in his home while he was away on vacation;
4:01 p.m.: suspicious person, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store complains that a female party panhandling in the store’s parking lot had not responded to requests to leave, the responding officer reports he identified two women begging with their children and advised them to leave, the two women agreed to leave the area;
5:26 p.m.: larceny, Hampden Street, a resident came to the station to report that the registration plates were stolen from his vehicle some time since 7:30 that morning;
6:28 p.m.: larceny, Main Street, a caller reports her cell phone was stolen while she was at work, the responding officer reports the store manager said that security video showed a male party reach over a counter and take the phone, the officer reports he made a tentative identification of the suspect but was not immediately able to find him, the officer reports that, later in the afternoon, he was advised that an unknown party had returned the phone to the store;
7:00 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a caller reports a generator was stolen from a home improvements store, see story in Tuesday’s edition of The Westfield News;
7:23 p.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, caller reports her wallet was stolen at a Springfield Road department store, the responding officer reports that the caller said that while shopping she inadvertently put her purse down, the purse contained more than $200 in cash, a cell phone and other personal property, the woman said when she realized that she had lost her purse she retraced her steps and enlisted the assistance of store employees but the pocketbook was not found;
8:38 p.m.: vandalism, Eastwood Drove, a caller reports hearing noises and finding that her mailbox was smashed, the responding officer reports the caller said that when she heard the noise she investigated and found that her mailbox and those of two neighbors had been damaged;
10:17 p.m.: suspicious vehicles, Ampad Road, a caller reports carloads of youths have been seen heading in the direction of a site commonly used for underage drinking parties, the responding officers reports that at least eight vehicles were found in a line, officers investigated and found four youths younger than the legal drinking age who were in possession of small amounts of liquor, city ordinance violation citations were issued;
10:18 p.m.: assault, Meadow Street, a caller reports her boyfriend was threatened with a knife by a known party, the responding officer reports the caller said that during an argument with a known party the suspect took a knife from a kitchen counter and menaced him while attempting to instigate a fight, the officer was told that the suspect fled when he was advised that police had been notified, a criminal complaint was filed.
