WESTFIELD – Forgive Westfield junior Ali Morin if she was looking ahead in Saturday’s PVIAC championship run at Stanley Park.
“Natalie Mako is crazy awesome,” Morin said of Frontier’s senior runner, who won the girls’ race in 18:07.88. Morin finished second overall in 18:44.59.
“I’ve been following her times all season, not in a creepy way,” Morin said. “I wanted to beat her.”
Morin, whose time eclipsed her personal best by three seconds, admitted that her wandering eyes often caught the back of Mako’s heels.
“I was so stressed,” she said.
Westfield, as a team, finished 16th overall. Amherst (33 points), Longmeadow (137 points), and Ludlow (157) rounded out the top three.
Emily McKinney (50th overall, 21:34.12) finished first for Southwick-Tolland, and Katie Clark (69th, 22:13.43) was the first Gateway girl.
