1:59 p.m.: assault, Frederick Street, a caller reports he was assaulted by three or four male parties, the responding officer report the caller said that he stepped outside to investigate a disturbance he heard and was beset by four persons who fled when he called for police, the officer noted two small contusions on the man’s face, the man said that one of his assailants was his neighbor’s boyfriend, the officer reports that while completing his report the man’s neighbor came to the station to complain that the man inappropriately touched her in a common area of the building, no charges were filed;
2:49 p.m.: assault, Franklin Street, a caller reports he was assaulted by a co-worker, the responding officer reports the complainant said that a co-worker mistakenly thought that he had informed his boss that he had been sleeping on the job and choked him, the officer noted red marks on the complainant’s neck, the victim’s supervisor and another co-worker supported his account but the suspect denied the assault, a criminal complaint for assault and battery was filed;
8:15 p.m.: assist citizen, East Main Street, a supervisory officer requests an officer assist a person recover property he can demonstrate owner ship of from a business, the responding officer reports the transfer was achieved smoothly;
8:54 p.m.: found property, Otis Street, a caller reports a bicycle was left on her porch, the responding officer reports the resident said that although she was at home she did not see anyone put the bike on her porch, the bicycle was transported to the station;
9:07 p.m.: animal complaint, a caller reports an Australian sheepdog walked into her house, the responding animal control officer reports the dog was transported to the municipal animal shelter;
10:58 p.m.: larceny, Church of the Atonement, Court Street, a caller reports her purse was stolen at the church, the responding officer reports that she was at the church working on a supper for most of the evening and her purse could not be found when she finished, the woman noted that other groups were also using the church property at the time, see 7:07 p.m. Tuesday entry;

1:07 a.m.: disturbance, Arnold Street, a caller reports her boyfriend is arguing with her son, the responding officer reports the older man said that an argument developed when he told the younger man to leave and he was punched in the mouth, the officer noted obvious signs of injury, the victim was transported to Noble Hospital where he was treated and released, Richard Arnold Jr., 23, of 14 Arnold St., was arrested for assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
5:36 a.m.: larceny, Norton Street, a resident reports via the on-line reporting form that his sister took his phone during a family dispute, the adult resident reported that he attempted to intervene when his adult sister became involved in a verbal dispute with their father, the resident said that his sister grabbed his phone and when he was unable to recover it verbally he left the residence to defuse the situation;
9:52 a.m.: motor vehicle stop, Noble Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, both the vehicle’s registration and the operator’s license were found to be expired , the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
11:17 a.m.: larceny, Juniper Park School, a detective reports that she was advised of a theft from the library of the school, the detective reports that the theft of a cash and library books occurred about two weeks previously and was reported to the Westfield State University police as the school is owned by WSU, the campus police have informed the city police;
1:03 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, a patrol officer requests a tow for a vehicle found to be operated by a person with an expired license, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
2:14 p.m.: arrest, Main Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered a known party believed to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, the warrant was confirmed and the man was accosted, the man fled but was taken into custody, the man was found to be in possession of what was tested to be crack cocaine, William A. Sampsel, 47, of no fixed address in Westfield, was arrested for possession of a Class B drug and on the warrant;
3:08 p.m.: larceny, Mechanic Street, a resident reports a theft via the on-line reporting form, the resident reports that three snow boards valued between $1,000 and $1,600 stored in her cellar have been stolen;
3:19 p.m.: larceny, Franklin Street, a caller reports a shoplifting alarm sounded as a woman was exiting with her child and the woman said she did not have time to stop, the officer sought the woman at the registered address of her vehicle and the woman initially denied stealing anything but subsequently admitted stealing from the store, the woman’s five-year-old child started to bring the officer items which had been stolen, the woman allowed the officer to inspect her residence for other stolen property but none was found, the store management elected not to pursue criminal charges but did issue a “No trespassing” order which was served;
5:17 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Bates Road at College Park Lane, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired , the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
7:07 p.m.: arrest, Cherry Street, a detective reports that a woman whose purse had been stolen called to report that she had learned that a credit card which had been in her purse was used locally, the detective reports he was able to identify two suspects from information gleaned at the point of sale, officers sought the suspects at their address of record and first spoke with a male party who admitted involvement in the theft, a female party eventually also admitted stealing the purse, the residents allowed the officer to search the residence and surrendered the stolen property, the officer found two packages of heroin near where the man had been standing, Aaron C. Wright, 23, 8 Cherry St., was arrested for credit card fraud of value more than $250 and for possession of heroin and Rene Passa, 33, also of 8 Cherry St., was arrested for credit card fraud of value more than $250, larceny of property valued more than $250 and for being present where heroin is kept;
7:53 p.m.: larceny, Heritage Lane, a resident came to the station to report her checking account was fraudulently accessed, the responding officer reports the complainant said that she discovered something amiss when her credit card was denied, the woman said that she checked and found more than $650 in fraudulent charges had been posted on the internet to her credit card, the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the Detective Bureau;
9:39 p.m.: assist other agency, Henry’s Trailer Park, 868 Southampton Road, an assistant district attorney asked that police check a person who has been required to remain alcohol free, the responding officer reports he found no evidence to suggest the man had been drinking but he did smell the odor of burnt marijuana and found a part of a marijuana cigarette on the porch, the man denied smoking marijuana;
11:08 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Meadow Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered a parked vehicle which was found to have expired registration, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
11:24 p.m.: fire, East Mountain Road, a caller reports her vehicle is on fire and is close to a building, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the woman said that she saw smoke coming from behind her steering wheel when she was turning from Springfield Road to East Mountain Road, the woman said that she stopped and she and her dog exited before the SUV burst into flames, the responding firefighters report the vehicle was fully involved but not near a building, the fire was extinguished.
