7:05 a.m.: larceny, Pochassic Street, a patrol officer reports he was approached by a person who advised him that steel had been stolen from a construction site, the officer reports he learned that reinforcing rod which had been formed into shapes specific for the Pochassic Street bridge construction project and was valued at $1,000 was stolen some time between 3 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday;
1:02 p.m.: larceny, Meadow Street, the proprietor of a Meadow Street automotive facility came to the station to complain of larceny by check, the responding officer reports the man said that a customer had paid for fuel with a check which was found to have been written on a closed account, the case was referred to the financial crimes unit of the Detective Bureau;
2:32 p.m.: larceny, White Street, a resident came to the station to complain that an online merchant did not provide the merchandise ordered, the responding officer reports the woman said that she had ordered materials for her home-based boutique business from a Chinese manufacturer and what was delivered was broken and not what she ordered, the woman said that the payment intermediary requires that a report be filed with police for reimbursement;
4:00 p.m.: larceny, Lockhouse Road, a representative of a heating oil company came to the station to complain that hearing oil was stolen, the responding officer reports that the complainant said that about 600 gallons of heating oil was siphoned from a delivery truck parked at the company’s yard, the officer reports security video will be reviewed;
5:39 p.m.: fire, Linden Avenue, a caller reports a burn pile behind a Linden Avenue residence, the responding firefighters report they found youths attending a fire, the mother of the children was advised of the pertinent city ordinances and the youths extinguished the fire;
5:53 a.m.: animal complaint, a patrol officer reports he was approached by a resident whose son was bitten by a dog, see story in the Wednesday edition of The Westfield News; 6:16 p.m.: suspicious activity, Airport Industrial Park Road, a caller from a construction company reports a male party is stealing scrap metal from a job site, the responding officer reports the two suspects said that they thought that the metal had been abandoned, the officer notes that the metal was intermingled with a couch and other debris on the side of the roadway, the officer reports the caller said that he usually moves scrap metal away from the road but forgot in this instance, the man said that he would be satisfied if the metal was returned, the two suspects were advised of the potential consequences of their actions and left the area after unloading the scrap from their vehicle;
10:59 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without headlights and stopped the vehicle, the officer reports that the operator’s license had been suspended and the vehicle was not insured, Jessenia Montes, 32, of 51 Talcott Ave., West Springfield, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and for operating a motor vehicle without headlights, the car was towed to the police impound yard.
