BOSTON – Secretary of the Commonwealth William F. Galvin reminds Massachusetts residents that they must register by Wednesday, April 10 to be eligible to vote in the April 30 primary for the special U.S. Senate election.
Wednesday is also the last day for voters registered in a party to change their registration.
Registrars of voters in each city and town will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Wednesday. In towns with fewer than 1,500 registered voters, registration must be open at least from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.
Those who are U.S. citizens, residents of Massachusetts, and who will be at least 18 years old by primary day are eligible to register. Someone who has moved to a different community must register again to be eligible to vote in that community.
Those who register now in time for the primary will also be registered for the final election for the Senate on June 25, Secretary Galvin said.
He noted that absentee ballots for the primary election are now available in all cities and towns, and he urged any voters who will be out of town on primary day or who are unable to go to their polling place because of a disability or religious reasons to apply for an absentee ballot.
Persons uncertain of their registration status should check with their city or town clerks or registrars of voters, Secretary Galvin said.
