Renaissance Manor 4, Prolamina 0
Renaissance Manor posted its first victory of the season, defeating Prolamina in a tough fought match at Paper Mill. Mason Periera got the win, throwing three scoreless innings while striking out nine batters. Dylan Gibson, Evan Grant, Alejandro Rogers and Jay Scherpa each crossed the plate in the bottom of the third inning to put Renaissance Manor up by four runs. Prolamina did not score, but kept the game within reach with some outstanding defensive plays. With one out and bases loaded, Bryan Bolio smashed a hard line drive down the first base line that was ticketed for extra bases, but the Prolamina first baseman made a leaping grab, and then doubled off the runner at first for an unassisted double play, ending a serious threat in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Scherpa closed for Renaissance Manor, striking out all six batters he faced in the last two innings.
SENIOR SOFTBALL
April 26
Westfield Bank 18, Kiwanis 16
The Kiwanis Majors Softball team played its first game of the season against Westfield Bank. For a few of the players who are new to the sport it was their first game ever, and for some it was their first game in the Majors division. The teams were evenly matched and kept the score close for the entire game. Kiwanis saw three innings of great pitching by 12-year-old veteran Hayley Moniz. Moniz served up several strikeouts and was backed up by some great defense on the field. Abby Goyette did a fine job taking over for Hayley and closed the game over the final two innings. In the field for Kiwanis, Kay Kay Bruno made an exceptional unassisted double play at third base in the third inning and almost another in the fourth while playing first base. The Kiwanis girls all put the bat on the ball and there were too many good at bats to list. One standout was 12 year old Madison Robitaille, who went 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run in her first at-bat.
April 28
Kiwanis 27, Montgomery Road Animal Hospital 14
Bats were swung a lot during the softball Major Division’s first match up of Kiwanis and Montgomery Road Animal Hospital. Kiwanis player Kay Kay Bruno made her pitching debut and pitched a solid first inning. Emily Gelinas also pitched for the first time in the Majors and followed Kay Kay with two solid innings, the final of the two going one-two-three. Hayley Moniz closed the game, pitching the last two innings. The pitchers were backed up by some excellent defense on the field, notably Asha Fisher making a great catch of a pop fly at third base in the third inning. Madi Harmon stood out at first. Offensively, all players reached base.

May 4
Kiwanis 9, Westfield Police 3
Jimmy Hagan had a dominate performance on the mound for Kiwanis, striking out 14 Police batters, going all 6 innings in a complete game effort for his second win of the season. Hagan now has 35 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched. Hagan also led the Kiwanis offense, going 3-for-3, scoring three runs and stealing a base. C.J. Skribiski continues to wield a hot bat, going 2-for-3 and driving in two runs. Matt Judd and Ryan Moorhouse each had two solid hits and scored a run. Moorhouse also had two runs batted in. Tyler Cousineau and Brian Daley provided additional offensive support with a base hit and run scored. Cameron Gourde also scored a run after reaching first by drawing a walk. The Kiwanis defense was led by catcher Ryan Moorhouse, who had a strong game behind the plate. Brian Daley also made a terrific diving catch of a low liner at first base. Kiwanis has won three in a row and is 3-2 on the season.
May 4
Camfour 12, Sons of Erin 7
A short-handed Sons of Erin team made things interesting against Camfour, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before falling in a Saturday afternoon game at Cross Street. Three first-inning doubles produced he early leade for Sons. With one on and one out, Tony Torres doubled and Ben Luksas singled to make it 1-0. After a second out, Bryant Keeney doubled to left and Jaret Gillespie doubled to right, scoring Torres and Luksas. Keeney made it 4-0 when he scored from third on a passed ball. Camfour scored three in the first and five more in the third to take control of the game. Sons added two runs in the fourth, the big hits coming from Keeney and Tanner Koziol. Keeney finished the scoring for Sons in the sixth when he stole home.
May 2
Commercial Distributing 13, Sons of Erin 3
Commercial Distributing (4-0-1) overcame an early deficit to top Sons of Erin in five innings at Cross Street. Rookie David Tirrell went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and two RBI to set the tone for the Distributors. After falling behind 3-1, the boys in blue exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning and never looked back. The big blow came from Jeremiah Darada, who cleared the bases with a three-run double to the gap. David Reyes, Noah Kantor and Tirrell also knocked in runs with singles. Darada went 2-for-2 in the contest and also made a sliding catch on a shot to center. As a team, Commercial racked up 13 hits. Nick Cyr, Ethan Dolan and Liam Webster each delivered doubles, while Reyes scored twice and plated two more. Logan Krol earned the win with six strikeouts in four innings. Tirrell held Sons scoreless the fifth inning, allowing just one hit in his pitching debut. He was aided by Cyr, who came up with an outstanding running catch in the frame. The Distributors continued to display praiseworthy sportsmanship on the field.
May 2
Commercial Distributing 13, Sons of Erin 3
Sons of Erin held an impressive 3-1 lead over Commercial Distributing entering the bottom of the fourth, but then everything fell apart. Commercial scored eight times to put an end to any idea Sons had of a surprise win. Sons went ahead 1-0 in the first when Tony Torres reached on a fielders choice, moved to third on Jack Blake’s double, and eventually scored on a Jay Rokosz infield single. In the third, Sons added two more. Torres singled and scored on Blake’s double. Blake scored on a Jaret Gillespie single. After that, all Sons could manage against tough Commercial pitching was a one-out Brody Zabielski single in the fifth.

Kiwanis 9, Camfour 8
Kiwanis rallied to score six runs in the sixth inning to defeat Camfour at Paper Mill. C.J. Skribiski had two doubles and two runs batted in and Tyler Cousineau had a single and a walk to reach base twice while driving in a run. Ryan Rix reached base twice and scored two runs. Jimmy Hagan, Skirbiski, Devan Nadeau, Ian Wilhoite and Tyler Cousineau all drove in a run in the sixth inning. Matt Judd, Devin Dupuis and Adam Masters all scored runs in the sixth inning as well. The big at-bat of the game came when Cameron Gourde was able to draw a bases loaded walk with two out and drive in Nadeau with the game-winning run. Judd pitched solid for the first four innings for Kiwanis (2-2) and kept them in the ballgame, turning the game over to Rix, who pitched the fifth inning. Wilhoite came on in the sixth and pitched well to earn the win while getting nice defensive support from shortstop Hagan, who turned a double-play to get Kiwanis their first two outs in the inning. Wilhoite then ended the inning with a strike out. Wilhoite and Hagan combined for several nice fielding plays during the game from center field and shortstop, respectively.

May 10
Anytime Fitness 17, Oasis Shower Doors 9
Anytime Fitness rallied from a six-run deficit to defeat Oasis Shower Doors at Paper Mill Field to remain undefeated on the season. Will Brewster picked up the victory with three relief innings, allowing only one hit, one walk, and no earned runs. Tanner Beebe capped Anytime’s seven-run fifth with a three-run homer. He finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base and six RBI. Also contributing offensively were Jacob Chattar, who went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, leadoff hitter Kareem Zaghloul who went 2-for-3 with a walk, two steals, two RBI, and three runs scored, and Jaden Gonzalez, whose fourth-inning double knocked in two and started the Anytime Fitness comeback. Starting pitcher Jeffrey Donahue continues displaying impeccable control on the mound, throwing 54 pitches, 45 for strikes. He has issued only two walks in 14 innings so far in 2013.
May 5
Anytime Fitness 16, Kitchens by Herzenberg 5
Anytime Fitness remained undefeated with a win over Kitchens by Herzenberg. Starting pitcher Jeffrey Donahue improved to 3-0 on the season, throwing three innings of one-run ball, walking none and striking out eight. Tanner Beebe led Anytime’s offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and three RBI. Ethan Bauch, Jaden Gonzalez, and Marcus Cole combined to reach base in all nine of their plate appearances, scoring six times. Kareem Zaghloul, Mike Durkee, and Jacob Chattar added two hits each for the victors.
May 3
Anytime Fitness 8, Fenway Westfield 4
Anytime Fitness used timely hitting and quality pitching to remain undefeated with an 8-4 victory over Fenway Westfield. Tanner Beebe went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI and earned his second save of the season, throwing two hitless, shutout innings while striking out six. Starting pitcher Jeffrey Donohue improved to 2-0, allowing no earned runs while striking out five. Leadoff hitter Kareen Zaghloul sparked the offense with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases while throwing 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief. Additional offensive contributions came from Andrew Navarro, who went 1-for-1 with a walk and two steals; Ethan Baush, who added two walks and two runs scored; and Marcus Cole, who walked and stole two bases.
May 1
The Batter’s Box 6, Green Meadow Lumber 3
The Batter’s Box defeated Green Meadow Lumber in a well-played game by both teams. Riley Sullivan started on the hill for the Batter’s Box and was dominate over three innings of shutout work. Sullivan struck out six Green Meadow hitters and finished with a crisp 1-2-3 inning in the third. Garrett Barnachez (5 strikeouts) relieved Sullivan and provided two innings of solid relief. Darin Towle (1 strikeout) came on to pitch a scoreless sixth inning to record the save. Ben Goyette led the way at the plate for the Boxmen with two booming triples to the right-centerfield fence as well as a single and two runs scored. Luke Bonini (2 hits, 3 RBI), Tristan Rogers (3 hits) and Nate Navarro (2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI) also came up big with the bats for the Boxers. Nate Pellegrini, Jake Smith and Dylan Shrimplin each had a hit of their own. The win evened the Boxmen’s season record at 2-2.
April 26
The Batter’s Box 15, Kitchens by Herzenberg 5
The Batter’s Box bounced back from an Opening Day loss with a resounding victory against Kitchens by Herzenberg at Paper Mill Field. Nate Pellegrini led the offensive explosion for the oxmen with two hits, including a long double to left field, and three runs scored. Darin Towle contributed two hits, two runs scored and 3 RBI while Jackson Lambert drove in two runs for The Batter’s Box. Dylan Shrimplin, Nate Navarro, Luke Bonini, Ben Goyette and Riley Sullivan all had hits for the visitors. Sullivan led the way on the mound for the Boxmen, striking out 6 over two innings of work while allowing no runs and no walks. Garrett Barnachez came on in relief of Sullivan and struck out the side in his one inning on the mound. Luke Bonini pitched the final inning and closed out the game with 3 strikeouts.
