WESTFIELD – Stanley “Mickey or Stashu” M. Jez was surrounded by the comfort and love of his children when he passed into Eternal Life on July 14, 2013 at the Northampton VA Medical Center following a brief illness. In February, Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica “Ronnie” (Kielbasa) Jez and in 2004 by his son, Carl S. Jez. Born on May 2, 1927 to the late Stefan and Elizabeth (Lysik) Jez.Mickey graduated from the Springfield Public Schools and entered the United States Navy. He later utilized the G.I. Bill to attend the Babson Institute at Utopia College in Kansas, earning a Certificate in Business Administration. Until his retirement, Mickey worked as a Service Manager at Topor Motor Sales and then went on to co-found Brookside Automotive where he worked until his son’s passing in September 2004.
Stanley was a fun loving man. During his lifetime, he enjoyed golf, fishing, watching football and baseball, rooting for the Red Sox, going to the beach, taking walks with his German Shepard’s, caring for Apache, and just spending time talking with his family. He was no stranger to anyone and bragged about his children and grandchildren to all who would listen. Stanley was a devote Catholic and a dedicated member of Holy Trinity Church where he served on the Parish Council’s Finance Committee. For over 50 years he was active in the Holy Name Society and thoroughly enjoyed Wednesday night Pitch Games, the “big table”, and the annual BBQ’s.
Stanley was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Michael Soverow; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Debra Jez; his grandchildren, Sheila and Samantha Jez, Michele and Nathan Soverow, and Danielle, Alex and Lucas Jez and their mother Mary Herzog. He leaves his sister, Angela Jaskolka of Indian Orchard, his brother-in-law, Chester Kielbasa of Ludlow and his sister-in-law, Jane Kielbasa of Westfield. Stanley will be missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren, relatives and many friends he considered family. Stanley’s family takes comfort in knowing that he has joined his wife and son as well as his brothers and sisters who predeceased him, Edward Jez, Sister M. Archangel, Stefania Gregorski, Stephen Jyz, and Anna Labuda. Special thanks to all of Stanley’s exceptional caregivers at the VA for their dedicated care and support.
The funeral for Stanley will be Friday, July 19, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. from Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Holy Trinity Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
